Sometimes - support comes from our closest companions - with me - it is my cat Leo.

He is so loving and supportive. He even mimicks my very ‘low’ days post chemo treatment day - also turning very tired and quiet.

Hi Sue H-S, with you on cats.

Mine’s been through so many traumas and downers with me in the last 10 yrs - BC, loss of family, all sorts of other stuff. Comes and pesteringly head butts me when I’m down, I can’t help but smile.

There’s a fantastic “Wild animal / carer revisited” programme I’ve been following on Thursdays ITV, at 8.00pm I think. Wow - it’s fantastic, sooooo uplifting. One woman even has a shark she saved that still recognises and comes to her, without biting her head off!! Rhino’s, chimps, elephants etc. that are being revisited years later after being released into the wild, and still recognise and respond to their carers call and smell.

Tonights included Pangolins - similar to armadillos but with a much more elaborate armour plate coat - fascinating and cute.

I stopped watching upsetting or gorey things a few years ago. Just stick to Happy romcoms, comedy films/shows, art, history, animal programmes etc.now. Also love some of the more recent animated fims - Despicable Me, Minions, Flushed Away, all the Nick Parks Wallice n grommit series and films, Shaun the sheep, featuring the likes of a Llama blowing fart bubbles in a swimming pool !!! Hilarious. Like adult panto.

Anything that makes me laaaarf or stimulates.

Loadsa love

Sue - You brill girl. Yes I’ve picked up on your amazing strength in other of your posts, but I don’t take that for granted though, because we can’t always be strong all of the time.

Yes I noted your champion award - well done gal. You’re an inspiration in yourself. Will catch you on other posts, rather than chat here.

To further continue on the subject title of this thread, I’m also glad to hear you have someone to give you human comfort. As affectionate as animals can be, you can’t beat a pair of loving, supportive arms wrapped round you, to give you A BIG GENTLE HUG.

Love to all reading

Music is so powerful in helping us to relax and dream.

This is one of my all time favourites - and the lyrics are so poignant for me.

Enigma - Return To Innocence

It takes me back to the day I visited a Samburu (indigineous people in Northern Kenya) and met Maria. Maria showed us round the village and explained the Samburu culture. Samburu people are nomads, purely relying on their goat herds and chickens for their food sources. Living in simple mud huts, the same way they have done for hundreds of years, there is no sign of anything remotely ‘western’. Maria was an English teacher. Having studied in Nairobi she chose to return to her people and their ancient, simple way of life. I asked her Why? Her answer changed the way I looked at life. Her answer was: In Nairobi I need money for clothes, I need money for accommodation, I need money for food, I need money for a bicycle, I need money for electricity…

  • …here I do not need anything for anything - I have everything - I am happy…

There is life after chemo!

This is me - day 7 post my last chemo (Sept 1, 2016) - now onwards and upwards to radiotherapy and then - physical recovery!!!

                                                       day 7 post last chemo.jpg

I went from 10st 11 (68.5kg) to 11st 9 (76kg) - thankfully at 5’8 3/4 it does not show too much. I was told it is mainly water retention and steroid influence. So I shall let you know whether the weight ‘falls’ off, lol.

I think I may be doing excercises with my cat…

Sue hs - well, if you look THAT good withOUT hair - Move over Sharon Stone when it grows back.

Wishing and sending you strength to see through your treatment<lovely Sue.

Is that really your puss?? British Blue, is that the right name?

I lost my Chloe last sunday morn - had to be put to sleep. Both legs suddenly paralysed Saturday. couldn’t stand up or walk.

We BOTH had a sleepless night. So I phoned into the Sunday morn emergency clinic, as being a medic, knew it was serious, like a stroke. And a v. poor prognosis.

I stayed with her through to the end, and do you know what?? She still purred and then . . . was gone.

The most horrible experience I’ve ever had to go through. Had her from 6 mnths old to 21 yrs old. My bestest buddy. I’m so sad and upset. Keep seeing things out the corner of my eye. I can’t even contemplate “filling” her place with another, until a respectable period of mourning and grief has passed. It’s my way of honouring her - my love of and for her, and hers to me. Bless her. Such  a wonderful friend and comfort to me through so much brown stuff in the last 10 years. .

lotsa of love to you all

Not been on this thread before but was exploring & saw cats ? and I have to admit I’m a cat person

Delly your story rings true with me as I had 3 cats and my little best buddy was run over back in December. He never made it and I think the shock might have been the start of my bc. I still miss him so very much he was amazing. I have 2 others whom I worry about constantly as they are also my babies!! One of them (Boycie) seemed to sense I had bc before I was diagnosed as he used to pad my chest & be panicky… Bless him tho he’s fine with me now thank goodness. My other one (Marley) is half British blue and an absolute beauty ?

Sue H-S you look beautiful by the way ? And that poem is very touching xx

Hi Terrianne

Yeh, I strongly believe animals sense too. My neighbours labradour kept nuzzling at my breast underarm. I found a lump in the shower a few weeks later. My cat, Chloe, could always seem to tell if/when I was feeling low. Used to come and headbut and affectionately pester me.

My wife and I are fighting right now together. Just after the olympics in Rio we got the diagnose from the doctors back home.
