Skin after reconstruction and reduction

I had a left sided mastectomy with immediate reconstruction and a right sided reduction on the 8th October. I was in hospital for 6 days because of serous fluid.  Since being discharged from the ward I have had fluid leak from the right reduction side, this has since stopped and I’ve had a swollen left side due to fluid build-up and I am attending out-patients to have this aspirated.

I am concerned with a patch of skin on the right reduction side.  This patch of skin is painful; it feels as though there is something sharp sticking in it, it is also red and itchy.

Has anyone else had this?  What can I use on it?  I’m worried my skin is breaking down.

Hi San
I had exactly the same procedure as you and I too had a pain as if a sharp knife was sticking into my ribs but this was on on implant side…it was so sharp it took my breath away and made me feel sick.
I found the pain lasted about two weeks after surgery then started to ease off until it completely disappeared around 3 weeks post surgery.
I also have a leaking wound to T junction of suture site to right breast. When I went for my clinic appointment the registrar saw 2 suture threads there and snipped them as they were not allowing it to heal. I care for the wound myself and 7 weeks down the line it is healing nicely.
I also have itchiness to my suture line but no redness only scarring. I do not scratch but pat gently for relief., Most times this type of itching is a common part of the healing process.
Sorry I cannot help with the fluid build up as I managed to escape that.
I hope this helps.
Take care Janey xxxxx
