Hi,
Just coming to my last 4 days of rads, 36 in total…
The problem is my skin is blistered, coming off, red raw patches…
I have been given a cream called Jaloplast, but this doesn’t seem to be helping.
Iv’e just had enough of PAIN lately, this is on my left side on my right side just had a implantable port fitted. This iv’ just got over the pain of more or less and now have these blisters…
It’s so ongoing…
Any advice please would be appreciated… I used all the creams advised relegiously, so don’t understand why i have burnt so bad…
I had similar problems and it’s miserable - I’m sorry you’re going through it. I think if you have as many rads as we have (35 for me) however good you are with the creams it is just inevitable. Can you get the bcn to give you some Mepilex Transfer dressing? It’s the low tack stuff and you just keep the sore area covered for a week or so until it heals. I was also given some prescription burns cream called Flamazine that was great - prevents infections and it cleared up the sore patches really quickly.
Teresa - sorry to hear that you are in such pain… I burnt badly with my rads as well… Not sure if they are going to give it to you as you are in Spain but another vote here for Flamazine cream you are only allowed to use it once you have had the last rads session but it really did work wonders for me…
Hi Therea - I wasn’t told that about only using the cream at the end of rads - I think I was given it with a week or so to go. Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me - wouldn’t be the first time! It did the job though - I had horrible burns under my arm and they cleared up in no time.
Finty one of the active ingredients is silver… that is why you are not meant to use it before the end… at my hospital they wouldn’t give it us until the final session so people didn’t use it too early… It’s meant to be the silver would actually make things worse if it was on your skin when you had a rads session.
Another vote for Mepilex - if BCN can’t help your GP’s surgery will. I had a skinned armpit and under boob area where th eboob sits on my chest and it was agony - the mepilex helped a lot as it protected the area and was easy to get on and off.
Oh dear, you are having just one thing after another.
Have you tried pure Aloe Vera Gel. I used it all through my Rads and did not burn. I use it in the kitchen as well for if I burn myself. It is soothing and healing and used all the time in NZ and OZ for bad sunburn.
Apply 3 times a day and let it dry before you put clothing on.
There are lots of articles on google about using aloe vera gel for burns, blisters, radiation burns etc. I could not find anything about not using it on raw skin. You will have to decide whether to try it or not. How about a small patch test?
Hi Muffett
I also found Flamazine fab for gruesome burns under my arm - treated it but also made it feel so much better…
hope you get sorted soon.

Theresa, how can you blame yourself for this??? after all the treatment you’ve had (and remember what chemo does to your immune system) a wound infection isn’t really surprising.
I think it means you have to treat yourself with extra care and call in all the support you can to get you over this.
I hope it soon heals and that you are soon feeling much better.
love monica xx
Well, at least you are now getting it treated. You can only have one radiation treatment left to do. What is going to happen when you finish. Do I remember correctly that you are traveling miles to get the Rads? Who is going to do continuing care? Have you been given anti-biotics?
Fingers crossed that you are feeling a little better today.
hi muffet,
sorry to hear your suffering, when my skin blistered and came of my rads lady gave me some gel dressings, they worked a treat, hope you can get something like that.
Are you still organising the spanish hol?
sounds so sore… compared to my blistered and cracked under my boob where it joins my chest… went to drs today adn she gave me cream… i have heard aloe vera is really good too… off to buy that tomorrow…
