Sleeping after surgery

I have always slept on my stomach and am finding this impossible
since m and recon on right breast.

I do have sleeping tablets from my doctor and take when I need
them but do not want to become reliant on them.

I have tried propping myself up but this does not help

Any suggestions

Also how do you stop family members from treating you like an
invalid. I know my limitations am doing my exercises regularly and
even get told I am doing too much when doping them. How do I persuade
people I am not stupid and can feel immediately if something is not right
and I stop its driving me crazy

hi carol, i have had a lot of probs sleeping in a good position, perhaps it will come with time and when things settle it will be easier.
my understanding of sleeping pilss is that they get you to sleep but don’t neccesarily keep you there.

as for family members… well i told mine to treat me as normal, then 1 day hubby did something and i made a comment and his reply was… you did say treat you as normal :frowning:
i do know what you mean though you want normality but it is still handy to have that extra bit of consideration at the mo, really.
i have waivered some of my jobs and at the end of the day the family should be doing more, so the grass is now cut by hubby and rubbish done by him, daughter now does more around the house (13) and does her own ironing, she also carries heavy bags back from town so i don’t have to use my left arm. we want normal but not to the degree that it goes back to before, sorry hope you get the gist.

Hi Carol

I used to love sleeping on my side, but since the operation in Feb this year I have been unable to do this comfortably I think you have to adapt as what was normal is no more…I know what you mean about being treated like an invalid, people mean well, with the family I just tell mine like it is to stop fussing, if I need help I will ask…

Hi Carol

I could not get comfortable after my mastectomy and reconstruction either. I bought a V shaped pillow which I found helped a bit. Took some of the pressure off my back.

Hope this helps a bit.

Take care and love

Hi Carol
Drove me potty to be fussed over but the good thing that came from it was that my husband, who never did more than put out the rubbish, now just does things around the house when he sees they need doing. Which is just as well as I’ve lost all interest in housework! I always used to sleep on my tummy but have now adjusted to sleeping on my back. Takes a bit of time to change but I’m sure you will.
