Ooooh, a question I know the answer to, well, just about!! Yes, you can get a referral from your doc to a Slimming World group (other slimming clubs are available). You will need to fit a certain criteria - I believe your weight has to be in the obese (horrible word) category and your bmi needs to be high (possibly over 30, not quite sure). I got referred before bc hit me - got 12 weeks free & free joining fee, which starts you off on the right track, and then kept going from there. I did lose 8 stone eventually, although had started taking anastrozole by then. It was MUCH harder to lose weight once I’d started the hormone tablets. Did get to my target, stopped going to group, weight has piled back on, even though I knew what to do. Have just gone back to SW, but without referral as I knew I wasn’t in the obese category (mind you, did find I had almost 4st to lose again, what a dipstick I am). Even if you don’t fit into the category, do go to SW, it really is about healthy eating. Good luck. :cathappy:xxx
Thanks Ruby
I’ve been twice before & lost weight but like you it’s all gone back on during chemo & now tamoxifen. I don’t fall into tears obese category though so will have to fund it myself. No big deal really. I just can’t stand the waiting for everyone to discuss their loss/gain that week…I get so bored. …Mrs Jones had 2 bottles of wine & can’t understand why she hasn’t lost any this week etc etc…zzzzz
Might just go to get weighed & leave ?
Take care

I recently rejoined Slimming World with my friend. Am on anastrazole. The group leader was rude and awful. She kept us and another lady waiting for 45 minutes whilst she swanned around doing nothing but tidying up whilst other ladies did the weighing etc. When we said we wouldn’t be able to stay every week she literally had a go at us telling us we would fail!!! We have not been back and will be joining weight watchers once my friend comes back from holiday. I’ve done both in the past and only have myself to blame for needing them again.
Hi, I’ve just joined SW and am 6 weeks post op. I don’t think they still do the free weeks scheme any more, I’ve had a search round the internet and it looks as though it stopped earlier this year.
they do a discount if you pay for 5 weeks in one go you get a 6th free which helps, and over 60’s get it cheaper as well.
I’m finding that I’m saving most of the membership cost on not eating out so much and not buying cakes and crisps ?
Fingers crossed it’ll work
