So on monday i had an ultrasound and a biopsy… Having read so much online and spoken to friends i was sat in the waiting room confident that they would say, its just a fatty lump or its just a cyst and nothing to worry about… instead the consultant found two other smaller lumps that i hadnt found and then during the ultrasound instead of saying it was just a fatty lump or a cyst they identified the big lump as a “solid mass” and werent able to identify the other smaller masses… so the doctor informed me she was going to perform a biospy… so she performed the biopsy and disappeared out the room… when she got back she said she wanted to send me for a mamogram! my brain was shouting so many questions but none were coming out of my mouth! Im only 29 so why would they suggest that? They had just chopped chunks out of my breast and told me once anethetic wears of it may be bruised and sore and yet they want to squeeze it in a machine!!! What had they found on ultrasound that made them want to do a mamogram??.. could they tell if the “solid mass” was cancerous or not by shape/ size etc…?? if not fatty lump or cyst what else could it be???
Luckily she decided they would wait for biopsy results first before possible mamogram… So i was sent back to the consultant who just said “Im very sorry but until we have the biopsy results we cant tell you anything.” And again my head was screaming out questions but my mouth just wouldnt open…and i left without having any of them answered…
Alesia they can’t know anything for certain until they have biopsied a lump,of course they must have an idea but things are not always what they seem , they were expecting mine to come back benign and it wasn’t so they don’t get it right all the time, this waiting period Is brutal and the absolute worst part, you can ring the clinic and ask to speak to a breast care nurse while you are waiting and she will be able to answer your questions and the help line on here are brilliant, they helped me so much while I was waiting on results, when do you get yours? Xx Jo
Thankyou Jo, will give the help line a call at some point. I get the results next Thursday. They advised me to bring a family member with me but I haven’t told any of them because it seems pointless worrying them when it could be nothing… xx
Aleshia please do not go through this alone and please take some with out to the appointment not because it might be bad news but just for the support. I had a call back from a routine mammogram three years ago didnt tell anyone like you and went in to be told they had found a lump biopsy was done and they told me straight away it was a fibrous lump. The relief was over whelming so would have been great to have someone there. If the news isnt as you hope you will need someone there who can ask the questions that you cant think to ask I had a call back again this year and told my husband and he went with me so glad he did we didnt get the good news this time and I go in for surgery on Monday. Please try not to worry your mind will be working overtime at the moment we all do the same. Hope your results will be ok.
Iv had so many health issues this past year I’m now worried that friends and family are going to get “bored” of my constant health problems… and i wouldn’t blame them… I’m fed up and bored of it myself! Just wish I had answers… im so sick of being sick… xx
Thankyou Mary. Its so nice to know someone understands how I feel… I have told some close friends but have not told them how worried I am and have brushed it off as probably just a fatty lump or cyst… (even though I know it’s not because the ultrasound showed it wasn’t either of them…) just don’t want people worrying about me… especially if it is nothing… get results thursday so not long now. xx
Good luck with you results Alesha,it is a horrible scary time .I have had a lot of health problems myself and I understand the idea of others being bored of you being ill too !!Hopefully it will be nothing to worry about ,but if it is cancer don’t panic (easier says than done !!!), most women diagnosed with breast cancer will be successfully treated .Lots of advice and support in this site from people who understand .Jill.
