so worried!

for a few months now I’ve felt a swelling in my right arm pit but when I looked there was nothing there. Noticed recently that my right breast is painful when I feel on the side closest to my arm pit but isn’t painful otherwise. Bit the bullet and went to the GP yesterday who says he thinks he can feel a gland or something in my arm pit and has prescribed me antibiotics which have given me diahorrea - yuk! Been referred to the breast clinic as well which I’m waiting for an appointment. I’m 37 (nearly 38) and had a full hysterectomy last year due to endometriosis so I’m on oestrogen only tablets elleste solo 2mg daily.

I’m on the verge of being totally terrified as I just don’t know what to think and whether I should be worried at all. Keep telling myself I shouldn’t worry until I know something but with a family I’m worried I’ve left it so long and now I’m put myself at risk. Anyone know if I need to be worried or what?

please someone give me some advice!

Hi Dudley girl, I don’t want to scare you but I was in a similar position to you. Hysterectomy due to endemetriosis at 34 then Elleste patches 2mg until diagnosis Feb 2008 with BC. I am glad you have a referral to the breast clinic. I didn’t find a lump but felt something wass wrong and had a mammo and 2.5 cm IDC found in left breast. I had chemo, rads and now tamoxifen. My mum has had bc twice (still here at 75)so I have some family history too. It sounds like there are alot of people with bc but it is not that common in under 50’s taking the population at large.HRT was implicated in my bc as my bc is 100 percent oestrogen receptive but that has not been proved. You are doing all the right things but appreciate the worry and stress you are under. Waiting for tests and results is so hard. I hope everything goes well for you. Don’t forget that everyones case will be different even if you have similarities to others.

hi dudleygirl,
sorry to hear about your worries. My friends situation is somewhat different to yours but she has recently had swelling under her armpit and on the back of what has happended to me she immediately saw a docter who referred her for an ultrasound within two weeks. For her it has turned out to be mothing sinister and possibly the result of being run down and having had a number of flu bouts in the last couple of months.
It is good to know though that doctors are taking our worries as younger women seriously as my diagnosis was delayed due to drs beleiving it to be hormonal due to my age. It is better to be over cautious. I do hope it turns out for the best for you.
good luck.
xx

Thanks all for your comments - I didn’t even know there was something in my arm pit until I saw the doctor. All I knew was sometimes it felt like it was swollen but I couldnt see anything different. The pain is still very much there although I’m taking these antibiotics just in case. I’ve not been run down at all although I had a cold a few months ago which they thought initially was swine flu! It wasn’t of course. I’m hoping I will get my appointment for the breast clinic soon as the postal strike is hitting my area badly. Think I’ll phone them soon just to see if they’ve made the appointment.

Thanks again and I’ll keep you all updated xx

Just to let you know I’ve had my appointment with the rapid access breast clinic come through for the 11th November. I’m having a mammogram which will be followed by an appointment with the consultant about 40 mins later. Keep your fingers crossed for me and of course I’ll let you know what happens. Still on the verge of tears all the time because I’m so worried but at least by next Wednesday I’ll know if I’m worrying for nothing or not. Take care all xx

Hi dudleygirl,

Good to hear you’ve got your appointment through. If you need a ‘good listening ear’ then do phone the helpline, the staff here will give you some good support through this.

glad to hear that you don’t have too long to wait for your appointment. Waiting for appointments and results is most definitely the scariest time. Its the not knowing that is the worst and your mind goes into overdrive.
Hoping for the best for you on the 11th.

OMG its tomorrow! Been alright over the past few days as i’ve been trying to feel positive but then yesterday I felt that swelling in my armpit again and I just burst into tears. I’ll let you know what happens anyway and i’m making sure I wear the waterproof mascara now (just in case). Love to you all xxxxxxxxx

Good luck, dudleygirl,

Just wanted to wish you good luck for tomorrow.
You have every chance of it not being BC, but if it is, I have found the NHS to be fantastic and the treatments very good. Also you can get loads of support eg. on this website !!
Keeping eveything crossed for you !
Love

Can some one put my mind at rest… Two years ago I found a small pea sized lump had a mamogram and ultrasound and needle biopsy then had it removed and was told it was fatty tissue. Last night I have found two more of the same type of lumps in both breasts…but am very paranoid and feel like my right breast is also burning…although to be honest I feel like I am burning up all over but not sure if its just anxiety

Hi K39
Sorry to hear you have felt some lumps in both breasts. They may well be as a result of lumpy breasts due to the hormones involved with your periods in which case they are not likely to be cancerous. Unfortunately, we can’t put your mind at rest. We can listen, support and give advice. You will have to go and get them checked by your GP or Practice Nurse. They may then refer you for mammogram etc as before. The sooner you go, the sooner you will find out what the lumps are.
Hope all goes ok for you. Let us know how you go on and use the forum to relieve your anxieties and to share experiences.
Big hugs
Hexy

dudley girl - so glad to hear you there was nothing sinister there.
you have done the right thing tho and got it checked out asap - i advise k39 to do the same…always best to be on the safe side!
good luck
