some more tests

hi everyone i was dx in may 2008 hormonal cancer i had wle no chemo just radiation and radiation to my ovaries im currently on arimidex and suffering with the usual flushes aching bones etc, but one thing i am worried about is that my breast has always been painful at first i thought its because of the treatment which is only to be expected but after all this time i thought that it might ease off i saw my specialist surgeon back in july last year and i told him about the pain and he said that he wasnt to worried about it however im a worry arse and probably over reacting with paranoiya (excuse the spelling)but i mentioned to my onc in january of this year and she said that she understands what im feeling in my breast as she thinks it just thickening because of the radiation but has sent me for a mammogramme and ultra sound to be on the safe side. I have had these done but the radiologist said that there is some swelling there but is pretty sure that its scarring from the radiation she also told me that i was also down for an mri scan so after they put the two images together there might be something there on them to say i may be called for one. A few weeks later a letter sure enough dropped through the letter box with appointment for this thursday now im so anxious that they have found something. When i had my yearly check up with my specialist in july my mammogramme showed that i do have micro calcifications present which i was told had already been present but had not changed so the result was a pleasing one. Has this happened to anyone else

Hi Jackie I have just read your post with interest and am so pleased that after all the worry and tests it was good news. Can I ask you why you had radiation to your ovaries Its just that my dear sister passed away 16 months ago of ovarian cancer as I researched I understand bc and ov can be linked so because of this I went to see my normal gp and he has arranged for me to have a trans-vaginal ultrasound for this coming tuesday! my onc did not seem to think I needed further tests. Like you I had wle 2ops to get clear margins and am starting radio therapy soon keep having drains so can not start rads yet told I will be having rads for 5 weeks. Also been taking arimidex for one week(only4yrs-11mths-and 3wks to go Its like waiting for a bomb to go of as I keep hearing such horrible things please tell me when your side effects started can I relax for a few mths? Although what you have explained has not happened to me I was told some micro c are harmless one nurse told me she chose to leave hers be and just get reg checks! so I suppose we are all different but as I do feel so vunarable. Good luck love from Linda xxx

Hi Linda i had radiation on ovaries because my cancer was hormone receptive and was quite small i was lucky really to have found the lump at such an early stage but because i also have a serious chest condidtion my onc thought that chemo would not be a good idea to give me as the infections you can get with it could cause serious problems with my chest although he did stress at the time if my cancer had been much worse like gone into my nodes etc then i would have had to have it so the only treatment was to put me on the change by getting rid of my ovaries so to speak i opted for radiation as i didnt want anymore surgery i had no side effects from this at all i was quite suprised i expected to be grumpy and miserable all of the time lol but wasnt the arimidex how ever started to affect me within a month or so i think it seems ages ago now as time has gone so quick for me im sorry about your loss dont forget you can have free prescriptions whilst your undergoing treatment i had mine for the next five years and you can use it for anything your prescribed by your doctor

Thanks Jackie are you still taking Arimidex how do you feel others seem to be swaying towards letrozole or is it lettozole? Femara is often taken to it is very difficult I was not asked my onc he just gave me a perscription he said it was the best one as Im post menap but after reading posts on this group I am worried especialy as I do suffer with aching knees oh what to do I think I will stay with Arimidex for now anyway. Thanks for the advice about perscription charges but I have just had my 60th birthday( the same week I was told I had bc)rotton time but it been 4 months now and can’t wait to get the 5 week of rads overwith just want to get my life back.I will let you know if my scan is clear on my ovaries(not looking forward to tomorrow)

Everyone is great on here it is so nice to have this support while going through this dreadful time. thanks again Jackie.love Linda xx
