Sore Veins Due to Chemo?

hiya Fee

i had cording in my good arm (original bad arm) at the time of fist dx and saw physio who did stretching, taping and excercises but never really improved just gradually lessened over a few months before disappearing but have had it numerous times since and most recently was 2 weeks ago about 14 days after 1st chemo. i have it from middle finger, through back of hand and wrist, up inner arm, through inside of elbow, through auxilla and in to boob.

i also have mondors disease in most recent side which is a cording disorder of the boob which feels like cording in auxilla.

i have ibuprofen gel to rub in but really doesnt make a great deal of difference… i just keep trying to stretch so i dont seize up and take plenty pain killers.

i have been referred back to see the physio but apparently its 4-6 week wait… so ill just have to wait and see.

would def recommend getting referred to physio.

Hi Fee

Have bumped up a thread from last year which describes the connective tissue stretching I was advised to use to deal with the sclerosed veins from chemo. Hope it is of some use.

Hi There,

Thanks crispy. I read the thread, great advice.

bumping this up

hows your veins now?

mine are still poop, the one on my left is bumpy and feels like it has loads of lumps all down it and is still sore… right is still sore too… not any better but left one is just worse now.

Hi Lulu,

Yep veins still rubbish…The pain is going week by week though, but the cording is very bad, can’t straighten my arm at all. I am getting physio from a team who are based in the Radiotherapy dept at the Beatson. They are doing a study into operated side cording and shoulder problems associated with Rads but when they saw my chemo arm they agreed to give me a few weeks treatment. the Chemo nurse is reffering me to the physio in the Beatson, just waiting for that. My last chemo was 28th July and it has taken this long for the pain to lessen, they did say that veins take an awful long time to recover and some sadly never recover their elasticity…

Hi Ladies

18months post chemo. now have full movement but if I twist my arm can still see the tramlines. Like Feemac it was the physio treating me during rads that started working on my chemo arm. keep up the physio its worth it.

hi have had my 4th chemo and just noticed yesterday a little lump in my lower arm just before my elbow on the inside right of my left arm! which in a bit tender, is this due to the chemo as my veins have felt quite tight and have been stretching my arm up in the air to try and help this. any help appreciated

Hi Elaine

one of the veins in my left arm is so thrombosed it feels like a string of beads under my skin… lots of little bumps from my elbow to my wrist and is very tender so could be something similar but if your worried about it or you get a lot of pain or swelling get it checked out by your gp or your team.
