Spinal Mets and cord Compression

Hi ladies

I fortunately have not had to post on here for a while, but always check in for all the great advice and information

I have just been told I have a soft tissue tumour at T 3, it was picked up when I started walking funny.
They are unable to operate. I have had 5 lots of rads and which so far haven’t helped much.
I have just started vinorelbine e weekly for 6 weeks and a course of steroids to try to reduce swelling.

Has anybody else had anything similar and did treatments work

What is good for the pain, what they have given isn’t touching it (kepake )

Thanks Mandy

Hi Iamok.

I cant give you information with regards to pain relief but can share my own (similar experience!) Prior to my diagnosis of secondaries I hurt my back whilst doing zumba. Things never completely settled over 2 months.(pain on coughing and taking a deep breath in and “throbbing” at night.) I never had symptoms of cord compression.Bone scan showed something going on in my thoracic spine. MRI showed a collapsed T4 with tumour displacing the covering of the cord and indenting cord.

I had 5 sessions of emergency radiotherapy (starting within an hour or so of the MRI!)…was then started on exsemestane…which kind of worked for about a year. for the last 2 years I have been on capecitabine. My last MRI about 3 weeks ago shows stability since commencing capecitabine…(but having the scan usually causes consternation as they get a radiologist to check the contact with spinal cord!)…so a couple of points…I think radiotherapy frequently doesnt help pain immediately but over a few weeks…and things may get worse because of inflammation before it gets better. (hence the steroids)…so it may helppain over the next few weeks. the second thing is radiotherapy/other treatments can control this for a significant period of time…in my case 3 years and counting…so dont give up hope! Best wishes Pamx
