Squelchy noise from wound dressing

Hi - I had a mx and node clearance - yesterday back home and feeling ok. Doing exercises and went for a short walk - have just notice when I move my arm up and down there’s a squelchy noise coming from my wound dressing - like there’s a whole load of fluid caught in the dressing. Is this normal? A bit concerned
Many thanks

Hi Julie
Have you looked to see if any liquid has seeped through your dressing , I would defiantly get it checked out , could always ring the ward you were on over the weekend .Hopefully it’s nothing to worry about take care xx

Hi julieytey,

Can i suggest that you ring your 24hr helpline number, as trying to get hold of your bc nurse or gp at this time of day and that its the start of the weekend and noone will be available to assist.
There is a helpline via breast cancer now link, who you can call tomorrow for some advise in what to do.
In the meantime, just rest as much as you can until you get to speak or see someone.

Please take care and if you can let us know how you get on.
Sending gentle hug to you.

It’s probably a seroma ( build up of fluid ) which is quite common after breast surgery - it can be quite alarming but usually nothing to worry about - please check in with 111 for advice tomorrow or call your surgery ward as suggested .

Thank you - I’ve been in touch with some nursing friends - no staff at my breast clinic at the weekend- and they are going to pop over. Sure all ok as feeling fine - pain free and no temp or hotness around area.
111 will suggest A&E!!!
Xx

Spoke to the lovely Sonia - at Breast Cancer Now and she reassured me that it was Seroma and as not uncomfortable or causing any issues (except the squelching noises) that it was nothing to be worried about - if it increases notably then maybe needs draining - so to keep an eye.
Be kind and gentle to yourselves x

Hello julieytey

Thanks for posting. Its good to see you got support from @charlottebee, @Jill1998 and @purplerose and you got to speak to Sonia on the helpline. We’ve passed your feedback on to Sonia.

You are welcome to call again or post on the forums. If you do have any concerns out of hours, then although 111 may suggest A & E that might be the best approach at the time, and they can also refer to GPs out of hours or urgent care centres.

24 hours contact numbers for the hospital treatment team are usually only for those on chemotherapy

Do call our helpline again if you would like to talk this through or have any further questions.

If you would prefer one of our nurses to call you. To do this please complete this form ticking the box agreeing to a call back.

Our usual opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm and 9am -1pm on Saturday.

Out of hours you can leave a message and we will call you back when we next open.

Here are the details of all our services and this section of the forum is for those having or had surgery
