Srontium Ranelate

Hello

Is anyone on Femara and dx of osteoporosis , taking Strontium Ranelate ?

I asked for this as didnt fancy the other things , and, although I dont meet NICE guideline criteria, my GP prescribed it - Now I’m worried it wont be as good as preventing any bone mets that might occur. or not be as good as the drugs you are all on at improving bone density.

Any thoughts anhyone please - I catn find any research on this.

Thanks, Kirsty

Hi Kirsty
I have been on Strontium Ranelate (protolos) for 4 years now, since my diagnosis of severe osteoporosis whilst on Arimadex. I, like you, didn’t fancy the side effects of the other drugs on offer and asked the Royal Marsden to prescribe SR as I don’t fit the criterea either.

I have had no side effects from Strontium and have not broken any bones, also my bone density has improved slightly. I think it is a very good drug but I am, like you, not sure about its ability to help prevent bone mets.

The National Osteoporosis Society think that Protelos is a good, effective drug, but the GPs don’t like prescribing it as it is expensive.

Good luck
