Starting Chemo Dec 2014

Hi carolyn, popping in from april thread again! I read on your post you felt sick and also vomited too with your first chemo, i also did the same on my first and when told onc at second pre chemo he presribed Emend and stopped the sickness straight away, its an expensive drug so i think when having first chemo they give you the standard anti sickness and see how you react and then prescribe Emend if needed, dont put up with being/feeling sick because the meds will really help!! Good luck for the next one, the weeks do go past quickly believe it or not. My O/h also did my injections, i used to hide behind the cushion when he approached with needle in hand!

Hi all, I’m on October and November threads as started chemo 31 October, but due to 3 infections and emergency operation I’m 3 weeks behind so had FEC 3 today.

Carolyn, as loveswine said don’t put up with sure effects you must tell nurse or onc and they’ll change the drugs. I was very nauseous first time but much better second time, fingers crossed this time.

San1952, each if my infections were after seromas which came 2 days after physio on my cording. Surgeon said to stop physio and keep doing mobility exercises but no deep massage. Just a thought. Do watch the drainage, I had loads too.

Babsgriff I’m have chemo at home too! Haven’t come across anyone else yet. How are you finding it? I’ve had 3 different nurses, all lovely but they did say I’d have the same one but her holiday had coincided with my date changes. I hope I have the same one from end January as I move on to 12 weekly sessions of tax which will be hard.

Hi everyone !

Day 3 after EC 1 and  was still nauseous , but no more vomitting !!!  Bone pain started  in my left hip and severe stomach pain, SE’s of the stomach injections, but I coped with paracetamol and ibruprofen as advised by the chemo nurse.

Day 4 and no nausea at all ( hurrah !! ) , but I will definitely take the advice given by you ladies and ask for Emend anti-sickness tablets before EC 2.  Stomach pain has gone now and just twinges in left hip. Visited my parents  and decided to wear my wig as , although I’m not expecting to start losing my hair until next week ( I didn’t use the cold cap ) , my hair has become uncontrollable due to not using hairdryer, straighteners etc. Felt quite glamorous in my wig until I also wore it to Asda on day 5 and the fringe started moving further and further backwards in the cafe as I hadn’t pulled the wig down properly at the back !!

Today is Day 6 and my gums are sore and the inside of my mouth feels burnt, as if I’ve eaten something too hot, but I was given Difflam mouthwash by the chemo unit, so have started using it for the first time today. Hip pain has now moved to the right hip instead but I’ve not needed painkillers.

Hope SE’s for everyone having chemo are also minimal.

Carolyn7 hope you’re feeling a bit better now. It’s coming up to day 5 of fec3 for me and nausea and fatigue have gone but insomnia has set in. Keep taking the mouthwash I think it really works though tastes horrible. Iveconly worn my wig a few times, cold capping and do far so good, but I also panicked in Asda that I was going to lose it to the conveyor belt or sliding doors! It’s nice to have an easy good hair day instead of the constant bad ones!
