Starting Chemo in February 2013: February Valentines

So pleased you’re ok Angie have been thinking of you , I’m like you tired & sickly but it’s doable , enjoy the rugby xx

I’m so confused! my surgeon, Onc and BC nurse recommended aqueous cream. When I asked if i could use Bio Oil they said it’s up to me but they couldnt recommend it.
I have also been using Almond Oil and E45 cream and was going to get some more aqueous cream but I dont know what to do now!
Karen hang in there and hope you dont get any more SE this Cycle
Angie enjoy the rugby! Love L’Occitane’s almond shower oil.
I’m off to try and make myself look half decent. Hubby is taking me out tonight and tomorrow for lunch for what will probably be the last time for a few months.

Hi Valentines

Karen and Angie, your updates are really useful to those of us who are due to start, helps us have an idea of what we might have to put up with. Bless you both.

Linda, glad you found the item about aqueous cream interesting. Re green tea, I can only manage one cup a day, but do like it. Thanks for info. I know previously when I’ve had nausea and sickness (pylo-nephritis, followed by C-diff) I found lemon squash or flat lemonade was a good drink for me. Some nice suggestions for creams for soreness, they’ll come in handy when on rads. Oh shut up Kath, let’s get chemo out of the way first!!

Funki, I think it all depends on how many nodes have been removed. I only had three taken and my arm movements have always been pretty good even though I don’t bother with exercises . Only movement I had problems with, although I can do it now, was patting the back of my head.

Kath xx

I’m pleased to hear you are OK Angie and Karen. I was worried about you Karen because you haven’t spoken for a day or two and I was wondering how you were. Hope it continues to be “ok”. Good luck to Jan who I think starts on Monday

Karen1971 - I’m so glad you’re doing ok. Yes - feeble and sickly but all doable! As long as I can sleep I am happy!

Hi everyone,my surgeon said the blue dye could hang around for a year. Some of you seem to be starting chemo quickly after diagnosis,I have two weeks to wait still.Trying to get things done that I wont be able to manage during treatment.Lovely friends have been taking me out to lunch.Hubby helps around the house and cooks anyway,so lucky there.Getting fringe on wig cut on tues,my hairdresser helped others before. My dear son in law offered to get me a hat with dreadlocks attached, bless him.I like to hear reports from those of you that have started chemo, how you feel and solutions to side effects. On mon my mission is to find out about flu and pneumonia jabs, funny not been mentioned to me when so many of you have been recommended.Keep posting everyone.Hugs to all Chris xx

Hi All,
I have a huge pot of Diprobase cream that is a lovey thick moituriser I got on prescription. I have had this for a while now as I was prescribed it when I have a major allergic reaction and was very swollen and spotty. It is brilliant and I am sure if you are suffering with dry skin you can get your doctor to prescribe it. I has no active ingredients:
Liquid paraffin, white soft paraffin, cetomacrogol, cetostearyl alcohol

I am hoping to get another pot of it soon so I can keep my hands dry as they are getting quite sore from hand washing (new puppy who chews bites and need cleaning up after).

Hope that helps

Alison xx

I think my blue nipple is going to be with me for a while - it has faded, but has stayed the same for some time now. Perhaps I should colour the other one in so they are balanced!!!

Glad to hear from Karen and Angie and that you are doing OK. Gives us all hope - THANKS!! xx

Alison for dry hands I love L’occitane dry skin hand cream , I know a few have mentioned the shower creme which I fancy treating myself to as the hand cream is lovely ,expensive for a small tube but goes a long way x

Morning Valentines. Slept well again and woke less nauseous than yesterday. On the steroids and anti-sickness pills for another day or two and hopefully should be ready to go back to work for a couple of weeks before the next round. I know I can do this now!

On the subject of hand creams (bit of an expert here as developed a wedding ring allergy last year), I like L’Occitane’s lavender hand cream but the best one I found is Kiehl’s. Expensive but lasts ages.

Well done Angie! loving the positive vibes from your posts. Funki x

Hi everyone. I’m not sure if I will be a February Valentine or turn into a March Hare (Hair? Oh, that’s too ironic!) as my meeting with onc won’t be until 18th Feb and it sounds like there’s a bit of prelim work/testing to get through before it all kicks off. Anyway, would like to be alongside you all, in spirit at least, even though I’m slightly behind in my journey. Hope all your treatments go as well as they can… I will be thinking of you all. Caroline x

That is excellent news Angie - well done. (But don’t over-do it!)

Hi Caroline and welcome aboard. xxx
I will be behind you as I had a set back when I was told I need another WLE, which is scheduled for the 22nd. so my chemo will be late March, but I am staying here in this group of brilliant Valentines. At least we will have the benefit of the experiences of the others!

Chris - I’m lucky too. My husband has always done all the cooking, and I am now in mid-training session with him as regards housework in preparation for when chemo starts. I showed him how to do the bathroom the other day - he was gobsmacked! This is all good, at least he may now appreciate just what I do in the house!!

Hi all

Angie and Karen, you both really are an inspiration, big hugs.
Chris, love the thought of you wearing a hat with dreadlocks

Alison, sounds like you are having great fun with your puppy. Will you wear protective gloves when you start chemo, or do you already?
Last night OH gave me a razor cut, Number 3. I normally have number 4 but wanted to go a bit shorter. I’ve bought two more hats, one is a blue cap and I’ve pinned a pretty pink heart brooch to the front of it. The other is a beret style with a bow on the side, very pretty and thinner than my other hats so I can wear it indoors or later when the weather gets milder. Wearing the cap now as it is cold, and want to get used to wearing hats in the house. Does that sound daft?

Hi Lola65. I had to go back for another WLE too which was on Friday. It isn’t nearly as bad second time around and i was out of hospital the same day but i know what it’s like waiting for everything to happen. I’m sure it will gather pace soon.
And to everyone else on this forum - thank you for all your ideas, hints, comments and feedback. It’s what is keeping me going today! Especially PG, Karen1971, AngieK and Cucumber12. I too am going to stick around in February Valentines… Thanks for having me!
Caroline
