Starting chemo in February

Hi All,

Lisa, Glad all went well with op, you sound really upbeat in your post! Take it easy and enjoy the pampering!

Adi, hope planning goes well, you are on to the next stage now! Am really hoping you avoid the tiredness. I am on Tamoxifen and no herceptin for me, so sorry cant help you with the Armidex.

Al No i did nnot find a castle…not one in our budget ! So i have surprised him and booked a wig wam! A far cry from a castle but he will love it ! Am so glad you are managing to keep up with the lunching i was worried!!

Well am two days into my boosters now, am very very pink and got sent to clinic today cos nipple is very sore and unfortunately thats where my scar line is so the boosters are firing right on it! OUCH! Anyway they gave me some Actiform gel pads which are easing the pain a bit, but blimey i have suffered with these rads i absolutely hate them (ignore all this Adi…yours will be a breeze! )
Having a day at Haven tomorrow which should be a good laugh and more make up freebies too!

Have a lovely weekend all, we are all such a long way down this road now, when i read some of the newbie posts it does bring it all back…but we did it!

Lots of Love Salxx

Hello girlies…

Well, I have given up on starting rads here now, its too late as I need to be back in the UK before school starts so I have a meet with my Onc on 29th for my Herceptin infusion and I will give her the news and get a copy of my file for the UK. Then I guess I will walk over to rads dept and tell them and hopefully get a file from them too. Planning to drive home in my car maybe 10th or 11th of August, it’s an estate, so I will bung as much as poss in the back and take a box of sandwiches drinks etc, and my tent and sleeping bags for camping on the way, prob in France!! I have managed to get both girls in the schools I want and after a lot of tears last week I am finally looking forward to going!!

Enough about me!!

Lisa, you sound in top form girly, I am so pleased… um could you send your mum in this diretion, I could do with a leg massage!! lol

Adi, how are you now you have finished the poisons… are you getting less tired? Your planning for rads next week… how time flies!! Good luck, its weird I have had mine and now I guess I will get a different set of tattoos in the UK… just call me spotted dick!!

Sal and Lisa… what is this LGBF thing you are all raving about… its sounds good whatever it is!!! Sal… did you find your castle!! and have you now finished your rads? I hope your nipple hasn’t peeled off!!

Lesley… any signs of hair yet? My eyelashes might have started now I am not sure, i feel something but can’t see anything yet but they finally stopped watering yesterday!!! My eyebrows are still pathetic.

sorry if I have missed anyone out… I am so tired, all this move and placing cats and dogs etc has been giving me sleepless nights, and this bloody heat doesn’t help!!!

I keep up to date with a bunch of crazy gals, a lot from here but some not on Facebook Breast Friends, my FB info is in my profile if you fancy it!

Lots of love and well wishes to you all, we are all moving along nicely now

lizzy xxxxxx

Dizzy, is there anything you need doing over here? Need a place to stop over on your way to where you’re going?

Sorry can’t type on phone!

Cheers CM for thinking of me! I think we are all sorted, my OH is on the case (I hope)… but thanks for the offer, you are lovely.

Ohh I am still in bed and need to get up… I dread going to bed at night and hate getting up and facing another day just lately. Suppose I had better put my best foot forward… arghhhh!

xxxxx

Hi Lizzy, you sound like you have so much to get sorted, dont know how I would have coped with a move as well as everything else, & driving back from spain, Im so impressed with you.Hope everything goes smoothly for you. No there is no sign of hair yet, knowing my luck it probably wont come back at all!. My sons graduation was lovely last thursday, I was so proud of him, he has had a hard year with all this going on at the same time as his last year, he is now a BAhons in Architecture:). The sun is shining here today, but not as hot as Spain, so out in the garden for me to get the grass cut. Have a lovely weekend everyone, hope you are all feeling better, rads for me next week:( Lesley xx

Hello all,

Well thats that then, have finished rads, not sure how i should be feeling just feel a bit numb really. No hospital appointment till September 29th, just me and Tamoxifen now on in! Went for a celebration lunch with OH at Jamie Olivers so that was lovely.

Al Am sure you are not too far behind me now. Off to Scotland on Thursday. staying first night in Cupar then off up coast to Wick, staying in a wigwam there! Then back down to Fort Augustus on Sat night so quite a few miles but am really looking forward to it. Hope weather is good as we are coming on the motorbike! Glad you have booked Tuscany its lovely to have something to look forward to.

Lisa Glad you have made your decision over rads and i hope the move goes smoothly. LGFB is 2 hour make up course, with a very very expensive goody bag! I got Prada perfume, clarins toner, chanel mascara, clinique , lancome No 7 stuff absolutely loads of it and all full size no samples. Your hospital in the UK will have the details so do book yourself on one! Nipple is still hanging on there thank goodness!!! but lots of peeling skin underneath but not painful.

Adi Have you had your rads planning yet, i truly hope you find it a breeze after your gruelling chemo.

Lisa hope you are continuing to improve and you are not trying to do too much.

Lesley hope your rads are going ok…keep slappong that cream on!

Lots of love to all you lovelies,

Salxx

Hi all.

Well done on finishing Sal. I’m a bit behind you - I still have 5 boosters to go but have done all 20 normal rads, wayhey. I have a day off tomorrow (machine service day!) so I will finally be finished next Wednesday. My skin is a delightful shade of red with some peeling, but it could be a lot worse so hopefully I will get through these boosters without any issues. Had an ultrasound today so they could mark up the booster site so I’m even more covered in pen! And this stuff isn’t allowed to get wet in case it comes off…so it will be tricky having showers for the next week. I’m still having showers though.

Hope you have a fab holiday Sal. The weather here has been lovely since the end of last week - but I don’t think its going to last I’m afraid! Forecast for Thurs is rain but hopefully it wont last and you will see the lovely views we have up here. Up north is really nice. And you will be protected from the midges in all your biking gear!

Lizzy - hope you are coping ok with the upheaval of your move. Have you heard anything from the UK hospital you’ll be going to for rads? Hopefully you will be able to go back and visit all your friends over there?

Good luck starting your rads Lesley. I hope they go well. I’m still really fatigued from mine but everyone is different so fingers crossed you will be ok. Has your tiredness peaked yet Sal, or does it continue past the finish line?

Lisa - how is your recovery going? Hope you are still being pampered!

Al x

Hi everyone, thanks for the good luck for thursday, (Rads)Well done Sal for finishing your, it seems so long ago that we all started this painful journey, great to hear that some are getting to the finish line.If you are a bit behind, keep going, keep smiling, we will all get there in the end. Hugs for everyone from me xx

Hi All,

Well done Sal for getting to the rads finishing line! It must be lovely to have auch a long time until your next appointment. Hope you’ve had a good time in Scotland.

Lizzy- How you feeling Honey? You’ve been such a busy girl with so much on your on you plate. Sending you lots of hugs xxxxxx

Bob- How’s those rads going? Are you finished now or is it one more to go? I can’t count!

CrazyLesley- Hope everything went well with your first rads.

Adi- What’s happening with you? have you started your rads?

Well, I have some good news to share. Got my pathology results on Thursday- There was no evidence of any cancer in the breast tissue and nothing in the 23 nodes that were removed, not even any scarring. I’m absolutely ecstatic! Do you think that means I can say 'I HAD BC rather than I HAVE BC? Still got to have rads and herceptin andd tamoxifen but what a result eh? chemo must of done it’s job. I’m meeting with the Rads people on Thursday. Can’t see them starting for a while yet though, I’m still so stiff and tight from the op.

Oh and I lost 2.7 kgs in 10 days. Brilliant, as my weight gain went up by over 8kgs from the start of chemo. Mind you, I am minus 1 and half boobs and they must have weighed a fair bit!

Hope you’re all enjoying the sunshine. I’m off to sit in the garden, in the shade of course!

Lots of love,

Lisa xxxxxxx

Lisa xxxxxxxxxx

Lisa thats wonderful news, you defo do not have bc now, its gone in the bucket, as my bc nurse said to me.3rd rad tomorrow, so far no se, fungers crossed. No sun here today, so resting on the bed in prep for next week. Hope everyone one is having a nice weekend xx

Lisa, I tend to say “I’m being treated for breast cancer”, as I’ve had my lump cut out but still having all the treatment - in rads, started Herceptin and all those hormones, but I still feel good that chemo’s over, that’s got to be the worst.

Lisa- that’s great news. Glad your chemo has been doing the job. Also well done on losing the weight too. No mean feat with all the steroid munchies to contend with! Though they are at least in the past.

I’ve not quite finished my rads yet - but only have 3 to go. I’m on the booster rads now, having done the 20 normal rads. Its a bit odd as you’re not with the same staff as before - they were much chattier when I was getting the normal rads, but you’re in for less time for the boosters and there is little or no exchange of words. Still, its nearly over. Had a busy weekend so haven’t managed any naps during the day so am going to struggle to get up for my vein physio in the morning…

Hope you’re having a great time in Scotland Sal. Not sure what the weather has been further north, but its been hot and sunny here for a change!

Al x

Hi February Friends. Not been on for a while but just caught up on latest. Wow Lisa that is fantastic news - what a result!!!

Lizzy hope you have manged to sort out your rads over here.

Glad to see so many more nearly finishing rads.

I had my first one today and also started on the Arimidex pills. Can’t believe have to be on these for the next five years. Apart from badly swollen and painful feet/ankles I feel so much better now. Some of my energy has definitely returned and just hoping it stays that way.

Take care everyone. Adi x

Hi all,

Had an absolutely awesome time in Scotland, did 1250 miles in 4 days so have a bit of a numb bum!! But my word it was worth it. It was good practice for Europe in 4 weeks time! The wigwam was really awesome and we were so lucky with the weather it was really hot.

Lisa I am so thrilled at your news i bet you cant stop smiling!

Al Are you at that finish line yet, i have a nice big triangle in dark brown from normal rads then a very pink square from the boosters. Have a little bit of peeling skin but not much and have to say the tiredness has gone. Am now on 2 pack of Tamoxifen and so far so good i dont think i have many se’s apart from stiff ankles in a morning but that soon goes after i start moving about.

Adi Nice to see you back and am so pleased some of your energy has returned it can only get better from here on in! How many rads have you got to have?

Lesley hope your rads are going ok.

Lizzy hope all is ok with you i guess you are either on your way over here or busy packing and stuff. Hope you arent overdoing it!

So i now have no more excuses not to lose this weight i have put on so am going to make a real effort…well till we go to Europe amyways…well maybe i should just finish this last bar of choccie off

Lots of love to you all

Sal xx

Hello.

Glad you enjoyed your trip up north Sal. The weather is less pleasant today! Monsoon weather…

I am very close to the finish line - tomorrow is my last boost. Can’t wait for it to be over - I am still so so so tired! I have different shaped red bits to you Sal - my main rads are in a perfect red square, and my boosters are in a smaller, redder rectangle inside the red square. Its a bit itchy and peeling but not too bad as long as I don’t try to wear a bra. Looking forward to not having pen all over my skin, though the 7 tattoos will obviously still be there.

I’ll still have to go to the hospital once a week for my vein physio, but apart from that, its just tamoxifen for me. Then I have my follow-up appointment at the end of September and my surgery follow-up in January! So i’m looking forward to my holiday next month, and planning a belated honeymoon. And hopefully being less tired soon!

I’ve not had many tamoxifen side effects either. Not yet anyway…

Hope the rest of you ladies are well - how have the rads been for you so far lesley?

Al xx

Lovely to hear that everyone seems well at the mo, enjoying holidays & planning holidays. Ive had 4 rads so far, & at the mo no problems, I dont know how many you have before the area goes a bit red? Ive started my hormone treatment as well, cant remember what its called, but it for post meno ladies!. Again no se yet!Ive got a few weeks yet till I go off on holiday & I cant wait, just need to lose some weight before I go & put it all back on with too much tapas & vino:). Ive started to sprout some hair on my head,(no where else yet), & Im using alpecin shampoo & liquid to try & encourage it to grow a bit quicker. Before we know it we will all be back at work & getting on with our lifes, take care everyone Lesley xx

Hi February people

Just been catching up on the thread - it’s nice to see everyone seems to be getting there and doing good stuff like going on holiday. I’ve just got two more rads sessions (out of 25) to go - looking forward to it being over so I can concentrate on being well.

Lesley - my skin went pink on rads quite quickly - after the first week - it is now redder and a bit itchy but ok apart from that.

Sal - glad you had a good time in Scotland - I’m off to the Orkneys in a few weeks - hope the weather will be ok but doesn’t seem too bad when I look up there on the forecast. Should be really beautiful anyway.

Lizzy - hope everything going straightforward and well with your move.

Lisa - i’m pleased to hear your good news - hope you are continuing to recover from your op and taking it easy.

Love and positive vibes to you all.

Helen xx

Hi Everyone - Lizzy have you managed to get back to UK yet? Lisa hope you are making a speedy recovery. Al - how is the physio going for your veins?

Sal no doubt you planning your next holiday. Going to name you ‘the lady that holidays’ as opposed to the ‘lady that lunches’!!!

Helen and Lesley I have also now got a red boob and only just had my third one today. I seem to have followed Al’s footsteps - software went wrong today so had to lie there for extra 10 minutes whilst engineer sorted it out. Not a very comfortable position with arms in the air! I suppose it was better than having to be moved to another machine, as would have to be lined up all over again. Got another 22 to go and bored with the journey already - two hour round trip.

Take care everyone and hope no SEs for anyone.

Hi ladies, this thread has been quite for a while, I hope everyone is ok?I finished rads last wed, boob is ok just a little pink but not sore.I feel a bit strange now that that side of treatment is finished, just got an appointment with onc in sept, will ask what the follow up plan is, does anyone know how often they check up on you?Ive got 1 more week on the sick from work, then 2 weeks holiday booked, off to madrid with my daughter for a week, cant wait. Then its back to work on a phased return for 6 weeks, it seems like forever since I worked last(end of feb).Hope you are all doing well Lesley xx
