starting chemo in January 2012

Dawn, that’s a fantastic name! Pronkjewail - just rolls of the tongue, doesn’t it?

Sue, glad your canulation and 3rd FEC went well. Was this your Herceptin talk this afternoon? The one that did not happen…?

Quite day in Copenhagen - bloody snowed again!! What’s up with that? Had the landlord come up to chastise me (being throwing my cig butts off the balcony, naughty, I know!) and answered the door commando… You should have seen the guy! He didn’t know to spit or to swallow. Have to confess, I’ve enjoyed his squirming!

Off of my sweets this week, dunno what’s happening!

how funny Julianna, your comment about the landlord…ciggie butts…commando…did make me laugh!!hilarious
xxx

Lol at you Julianna answering the door commando! love it. i really like my head and forget that i have no hair and always going commando!! scared the eleccy man who came to read the meter!!! “you alright?” i replied yes i’m fine! standard reply!!

on the plus side both my girls are in Urdd again this sat, local round, reciting and singing welsh songs and poems. i did say that i would be easy to spot in the audience and i would write words of encouragment on my head for them!!!

Hog roast, Dawn, we had one for our wedding party and it is just a whole pig roasted!! Yum Yum!!! would seriously recommend for any party! and you get to take home any leftovers…which there won’t be if you lot turn up!!!

Glad cannulation went ok today SueX

With my hot flushes, which started after number 3 and is REALLY annoying the fecking hell out of me, there is little chance I will be putting anything on my head just to make the landlord who came to bollock me feel better!

Pram time coming up again… I hope this fecking RAGE is going to depart after the last juice!

Morning all

Just had a quick catch up with the thread - no time yesterday - little one was off school with temp. - has a dreadful cold (hubby also coughing so little hope for me, I think). Temp.OK today so off he has gone.

Glad yesterday not too bad for you Sue - had everything crossed for you.

Lol re Landlord, Juliana.

Well I am just about to embark on that dreaded journey to the hosp. for juice number three - oh, the enthusiasm I have for the thought of blood tests, poking, prodding, cold cap, cannula and possiby the worst bit - the hospital sandwiches!
Anyway good luck Summer20 and Maggie50 and anyone else due today.

Hope everyone has a good day x

Ladies, wondering if any of you can help??

For the past 3-4 days I’ve been woken up around 6am with stomach discomfort resulting in me going to the loo. Then I go back to bed and as soon as I’m settled it comes back and I’m off again. This must happen 5,6+ times and I’m getting sick to death of it now. Am bloody shattered not to mention my bum is starting to feel alien to me lol

Now I’m not sure if it’s a result of taking so many pain killers over the weekend (my BCN seemed to think I’d be constipated rather than the other?) or something I’m eating or if it’s just simply a side effect of chemo itself??? It’s driving me mad!! And surly it’s not good for me either, must be dehydrated like mad too. It only lasts the morning too??

Really don’t want to ring chemo suite as I know they’ll want me to come in and they’ll want to take bloods. I’m on strike from now on, sick of being poked and proded and not prepared to spend my day sat around on that chemo suite waiting for them to see me and then for blood results.

Heeeeelp xxxx

Lynzi

how is your temp??? better to be safe than sorry and ring the unit…I know you dont want to spend another day in the godforsaken place but better to give em a ring xx

try to drink lots of water too just in case you are becoming dehydrated

let us know how you get on x x

Julie

good morning all, just managed to catch up with the thread. Gosh how it grows in a day! I did have some laughs tho so Thanks.
Had a pretty rubbish weekend feeling so ill but can safely say i think I’m over worst. Dn came yesterday to flush line. Everything was in order however i had excruciating pain in picc arm she reckons its phlebitis (apologies if spelt wrong apparently this is wen vein is inflammed as body trying to reject the picc thinking it’s a foreign body). Been given antibiotics to take and ibroprufen. Like i don’t have enough crap running thru body.
Ha ha sue Thanks for the proud title of nymphomaniac laughed out loud at that. Glad juicing went well too. Half way now yay!
Lynzi poor you sounds terrible. You must ring chemo unit hun i think they’ll tell you to take imodium but it just stops the diahorrea and I’m sure you want to try to see why you’ve had in 1st place. My dad’s old remedy was eat a green raw banana usually works for me! Avoid any dairy products too. Let us no how you get on.
Needahug glad your lo is better good luck to you summer and Maggie today and anyone else I’ve missed. Hope you’re se’s are small and manageable.
Julianna ha ha that is so funny re landlord Thanks for the giggle! Hot flushes sound awful is there nothing they can give you to help? I no it’s chemopause sign but nonetheless sounds rough.
Angel your cake sounds amazing i bet it’s all gone by now tho!
Dawn your new boat sounds amazing i hope you’re enjoying it.

Anne how’s your arm? I’ve been using hot water bottle last few days and it has helped alittle.
Jules how’s your arm? Has your picc started to behave?
Anyway apologies post is getting rather long hopefully back with vengeance so Will post again later! X

Lynzi, I am with Julie on this one: ring the unit. Are you taking any laxatives, eating/drinking prune juice? That could cause the runs…

Needahug - thinking of you! Welcome (shortly) to the halfway house!

Just reading about appointment change worries, i work in appointment centre for my trust and it’s so common. We get alot of stick from patients about it and often dont even have a reason to give them. Consultants cancel clinics all the time, usually last minute. I would only worry with initial or results appts being brought forward via the cons secretary or gp concerns xxx

Sorry for all the random posts am catching up hehe

Re tax… On my appts sheet it says ‘5h’ by each one which I assume means 5 hours. I’m due in for 10am and this takes into account the cold cap which i used on the first visit. Generally I get there and they give men a heat pack to warm up my veins then cannulate. I’m then flushed through and given some anti sickness before they pump the red stuff through. That takes 15 mins and then they have to wait an hour before they can give me docetaxal so flush through a load of saline. The first 2 times they diluted the tax with saline and put it through over a period of 2 hours as many people suffer a reaction. The last time they’d bumped it into an hour then flush again with saline then I’m done. With regards to steroids I have to take them for 5 days starting the day before chemo xxxx

Re food… I’ve not been told to avoid anything just make sure things like eggs are well cooked.

Re condoms … They told me I must use condoms for the 3 days after having chemo as it can present itself in your ‘body fluids’ also for the 3 days after im to flush the loo twice - with the seat down! Lol

Thank you ladies, I know I should but I just cannot face it. I’ve come round a bit now, I think I’m gonna leave it one more day and if the same thing occurs in the morning I’m gonna give them a call. I’m supposed to be meeting 2 good friends and my gorgeous god daughter soon so I’m not giving that up to spend the day on the chemo unit no way.

I’m not taking anything to that effect no Julianna. However I am eating nothing but crap which may have something to do with it but it’s just the specific timing of it all that has got me thinking surly something is not right?? Luckily I drink a lot of water anyway so will continue on that xxxx

Lynzie. Sorry can’t remember what you’re having. With FEC it’s definitely a possible side effect. The information I was given re contacting my unit is if you have diarrhoea 4 or more time in 24 hours. To be on the safe side I’d take a thermometer out with me for reassurance. Have a lovely day with your friends and god daughter. X

I’m stuck at home waiting for DN. As soon as he’s been (yes he. Gorgeous Greg) I’ll be on the bus to Newhaven to help OH with boat. It’s still outside shed with no sign of a crane. I know I’m not supposed to get a bus, but I’ll have my antibacterial gel with me and try to sit away from everybody. At the end of my middle week now and I just want to get to the boat.

Hope he comes soon.

See you later all. XXXX

Thanks Lynzi - re appts changes, get paranoid and look too much into how they word the letters!!! i analyze it all!!! Enjoy your day X

Mary- DN been this morning and the little beggar is still not playing guess I am going to have to put up with needles and PICC…

Mmmm just wondering if some bedroom aerobics might help seems to have done the trick for you lol apart from the phlebitis x x

Have to say my mood is definately on the up spoke to DN this morning and all she said was I was allowed because of all gone through since November…so onwards and upwards lets hope it was a blip

Hope you all have a lovely day x x

char sui for tea so better get basting

Julie x

Lynzi, don’t blame you! I wouldn’t want to give up a nice lunch AND cuddles from God daughter to sit at the onc unit!

You go Julie! Both on the bus and with the bedroom aerobics!

Gonna go to Ikea - I love gardening and since I’ve moved to Denmark I have not had one, not even stuff on my balcony (I hate it here and 3 months after I’ve moved I wanted OUT! Thus no window boxes). But I have the gardening urge today and going to go and get some boxes and some flowers and have a good muck around.

Chemo brain!!!

Julie in the bedroom - Dawn on the bus!

Juliana you think I should ask to borrow Ava’s (god daughter) pram? Hehe

Ahh, how could I have missed checking how the off loading off the boat went Dawn, think I was just me me yesterday! Never had a hog roast - you have seriously missed a treat! simply one the most wonderful ways to cook pork on the planet.
Pronkjewail - how lovely and original (although maybe not so in the Netherlands) And so glad you are keeping her name, bloomin heck she’ll have enough to contend with with the language! Although I must say that all the Dutch we meet all speak amazing english, even though they usally say their english is not so good, it’s usually pretty amazing. We always love meeting up with Dutch peeps on our travels as often it’s the only english speakers we meet in 3 months!
Gorgeous Greg! I have the pleasure of Beautiful Bob (oh) doing my Neulasta today lol.
Have a lovely day down the boat yard - hopefully Pronkjewail will be craned off today! I’m with Julianna on this, it doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue does it!

Yep Julianna, that was my NOT herceptin talk. They are supposed to ring me today presumably to make another appointment, or because I stroppy cow - who moi? - yesterday, they may reduce my talk to a quick 5 mins on the phone lol. That said, I may have to eat humble pie, and be all contrite, as i would like my future juicings bringing forward to the previous Friday or Thursday so as I can give bllods the day before and not have such long sessions. My blood counts were all good - medium ‘normal’.
Snow, hmmm, but I would have loved to see landlords face - what a picture you couldn’t take a picture lol.
I love an Ikea trip, the prices are amazing. Good for you wanting to jazz up with some window boxes - how can you feel down when things grow - especially if you can sneek in some edible herbs lol.

Like you Joyce I much prefer going commando, it’s so much more pleasant than the wig or Buffs. I also find my head gets so hot covered up!
Spot the proud mummy! And rightly so! Life outside goes on doesn’t it, with or without you, but keep it clean - whatever you right on your head!!! Hmmm, thinking about your daughters, where do they get their talent from? Have you got hidden talents lol?

Ah ha needahug, you’ve decided to join the rest of us mere mortals and stand the right way up lol.
Fingers and toes crossed for you, firstly for NOT catching the colds, and secondly for todays juicing. Hope it all goes quickly!!!

Lynzi, along with Julie, my first thoughts are temperature and then drink plenty of water. And then regardless of whether you want to or not - you must ring your unit!!! Naughty girl, if you don’t, it will be Headmistresses office for you and then you will be put on detention.

Char Sui Julie, sounds delish, is it your recipe?

Poor you and your arm Mary, thank goodness my cannula experience was a good one yesterday as I think I’ll pass on the picc for now - wimp.
And sod the long post - I have to say that as I think I’ve become a master of them, sorry!!!

If I’ve missed anyone, sorry. But you will be pleased to know this is the end lol!

Kippers for lunch, one of my three oily fish this week. I don’t supposed last nights battered cod counts lol.

Sue x
