Starting chemo in May 2011

Oh Ninja, I do feel for you. Fortnightly comes round too bl**dy quickly. Weekly must be a right pain in the a*se. Am starting weekly Herceptin, but at least I don’t have the weekly SEs from that.

Almost halfway through TAX though… Sending cyber strength!! xx

(PS Hope the moving’s going well! x)

We keep finding more and more stuff! Been to the tip two days running - we thought we’d sorted out the tipping stuff last month.
Got 8 bags for the chassy shop tomorrow on the way to poisons.

Anyone know how to disconnect a dishwasher?

Sounds a bit of a nightmare Ninja! Pour a gin!! Dishwasher … there must be something on the internet that will tell you … hope all goes well xxx

Can’t have a gin - having poisons tomorrow so need to stay hydrated.

I like gin.

Did I mention, I like gin?

It seems most of us like gin … I feel a theme here ! Good luck todsy Ninja … x

Hello All,

Ninja hope poisons are going/have gone ok…Re: dishwasher, the only thing I’m certain of is to TURN OFF the WATER supply first!

Gin… a real theme here. Perhaps we all ought to get together towards the end of the year when most (I know some of you won’t be)of us will be finished poisons and rads and we could have a gin, damson or otherwise party!! Maybe somewhere in the middle of the country so we can all get there without a massive journey??..

Sorry Rachel, no mail order from France but if we ever did get together could bring some then!

Tricia, so glad you found us again and you seem to be doing ok

Hope everyone else ok whether being poisoned or in a good week.

Wandyx

Hmmm.

In our Trust, they use RO machines for the kidney dialysis machines. The machines have to be serviced and re-validated every quarter and the filters changed at the same time.
The cost of this is very high; can’t remember exactly how much as not on work lappy but it’s eye-watering. VERY expensive. If you don’t have them regularly serviced, validated and re-filtered, they’re pointless.

Hi girls
Seen my onc for the 1st time since treatment planning way back in april I think anyway he said as I am suffering so bad with the clots and pain I will have my next fec number 5 and if I am really bad again that will be the last he said that 5 is better than 4 although theres no evidence that 4 isn’t enough?? I don’t know I come out of hospital in a right bad mood.Feeling very worn out by this whole chemo lark seems to be dragging on and on,like the nausea that seems to be going on longer too.
Hope your all having a better time of it all.
Rhona.x

Ninja … they removed my post about RO and bottled water … such a shame… I know its expensive using RO but the facts about plastic bottled water are quite frightening … are we being scare mongered???

Anjielav-I’m sure I read it before they deleted it. It really made me think.

Belfor-sorry you’re having a hard time. Sending hugs your way.

Hope everyone is okay-I’m still wired with asteroids-going to watch a film I think and pretend I’m drinking Wandy’s damson gin!!

PP it really would be lovely to meet up, if we can all get to somewhere not too far away from us all. It really feels as if we know one another and are old friends, yet most of us have never actually met. Sounds like a plan and then us gin swiggers can test Wandy’s gin, and you can have whatever your tipple is!

Rachel x

Gin is good … it comes in a glass bottle, therefore it is safe! x

Angie: “they removed my post about RO and bottled water … such a shame… I know its expensive using RO but the facts about plastic bottled water are quite frightening … are we being scare mongered?”

It *did* read like a sales pitch!

TBH, anything that sounds so dramatic can often be over-egged- like the fake virus chain emails that start “this is the worst virus ever according to CNN”.

Tax went Ok today and been packing up bedroom and kitchen boxes from 2-8pm. Shattered!

Ninja, I think your mad. Moving and chemo. Good luck for tomorrow. I hope it all goes smoothly.
Angielav, I agree with what Ninja said. I read the post on bottled water and RO and felt it read like a sales pitch. The cancer reasearch web site has quite a bit on plastic bottles, etc. Basically saying that there is no need for concern. I am drinking alot of it at theh moment as I find the chemical taint from tap water in this area is pronounced while I have been on chemo
Wandy, I have never tried damson gin but I do like damson jam so it could be a soemthing to look out for.
Rhona, sorry you are having such a bad time with veins and blood clots. It must be worrying to be told that they are going to miss out the last of your FEC treatments. When I had FEC 4 on tues the nurse said that if I was having any more than two more treatments they would get me fitted with a port as I am running out of veins and the ones they have used are looking pretty mangled.
PP, I love your idea of a meet up when we have finished treatment.

Completed wired yesterday from steroids stripped the beds, did loads of laundry and ironing in the am. crashed for 3 hours in the afternoon and up at 6am this morning. Still bright red and feeling bloated from the 'stroids.

Have read all the stuff on the cancer research site and am now really confused… so is plastic bottled water safe, as they say it is ??

Most of what I read says it is safe. Emails circulating about this have been going around for years. See “snopes” and urban legends".
Personally I have more of an issue with the water coming out of the tap.
Just got the post. I have appt with clinical gentics on 12 Sep.

<materials engineer=“” head=“” on=“”><br>
The plaggy used in water bottles is PET and it is food-safe. I’m not drinking tap water at the mo (on doc’s advice) because it has so much chlorine etc in it to make other folks’ urine drinkable. So he was happy for me to use PET bottles. But I wouldn’t heat anything up in one, so that warm water that the sunlight burned in the car should be discarded.</materials>

Cheap water bottles sold for bikes and runners are made from PE (polyethylene AKA polythene, like used for shampoo and washing-up liquid bottles); I wouldn’t drink out of it.

PP (polypropylene) bottles are the better quality material and food-safe.

The only place I know of that uses RO machines round by me is the satellite dialysis units. That must say something. And like I said, unless you (at GREAT expense; it costs the Trust THOUSANDS per site) get it serviced and validated and filters changed every quarter, it’s pointless. I’ve NEVER heard of anyone having a RO unit at home for chemo.

I think that some manufacturers sell totally inappropriate items using the Fear Factor. In my humble opinion.

Cherry - me mad? Maybe - but got offer accepted same week as we got Dx.

Been planning this move for 3 years - cannot stand living round here any more - business opposite fills up our street so no-one can park anywhere near their own home. Need to do a 7-point turn to get in driveway.
Local school has just had an “outstanding” OFTSTED report so good time to go!

Still running on adrenaline - still packing. Yesterday’s poisons been OK

Ninja you are defo Wonder Woman!
