Starting chemo in May 2011

Ho Folks.

Went to LGFB this afternoon - I was nearly crying before I went because I’m so bliddy TIRED. I just want to stay in and sit on the sofa and nod off and relax and do NOTHING.

The LGFB goody bag was nice. It seemed that folk had 50/50 cheaper brands (Boots No.7, Rimmel) and proper brands like Clarins/Elizabeth Arden/Clinique. I had a Simple cleanser and the woman next to me had Clarins; but I got Chanel mascara and she got a budget one. And so on. Each person seemed to have a slightly different selection; my perfume was Prada Tuberose which is a wee bit sweet old lady-ish but useable.

Just been checking up:
Lancome Hydra Zen eye £34
Elizabeth Arden 8-hour cream (a legend I’ve always wanted to try!) £25
Prada EDT £25
Garnier sensitive wipes £5
Max Factor blush £7
Chanel mascara £22
No7 green primer (for red patches - I don’t have any red patches; this will never get used!) £11
No7 eyeshadow trio £10
Clinique lip liner £11
Maybelline 18-hour lippy £4
Ms Makeup Eye Shading Brush £4
Lippy - label so small I can’t read it
L’Oreal brow & eye duo £4
L’Oreal 6 hours Glam Shine lippy £8
Clarins Toner £14
Simple eye cleanser £1
No 7 mousse foundation £12
No 7 loose powder £11
Rimmel eye pencil £2
Clinique Line Smoothing Concealer £14
Total £224 plus the lippy I can’t read with chemo eyesight.

I shared the goodies with my daughter.

Tax and Her for me tomorrow - hope everyone else is OK

Wow Ninja - that is some goodie bag. I go on August 9th hopefully - I have my pre- assessment for my picc line / central line on the same day at 9am so hopefully will be able to get from Preston to Manchester in time for my LGFB appointment at 2pm.

You need to rest!!

Hi Girls
I was at the LGFB yesterday got the same goodie bag as you Ninja very very impressed with it,the session was at a different hospital to mine so I didn’t know a soul but it was still a good afternoon makes a nice change going to hospital for something lovely.Come home with new eyebrows one of the ladys done for me looked really good don’t what they will be like when I try think I only have 6 of mine left so better get some practice in.
P.S. Ninja I can’t read the lipstick neither, nice colour though.

Rhona.x

Hi Guys.

ST: I know I need to rest - I’ll get to sit still and nod off in the chemo chair today though ;o)

Rhona - where did you go for your LGFB? Were you with me at Jimmy’s?

Do you know, the ladies doing the sesh said that goody bag was worth between £200-300 but I didn’t think it was till I got home and looked up the prices on the interweb. It’s surprising how it mounts up. I don’t think I learned anything, make-up wise, I have been looking after my skin since I was about 15 (and encouraged daughter to do the same) and we both have good skin as a consequence. But it was fun. Quite a few of the ladies there were making comments like, “I have only ever worn lipstick and mascara and don’t know what to do with eye pencil” etc.

Anyone got any spare newts (or even terrapins) for me today? The hospital I go to, do the blood tests on the morning of the chemo to save journeys. We get the results back in an hour so I get time for a cuppa and a read while I get some preliminary saline. It seems that a few folk have to get their bloods done a day or two before.

Morning all,

Hope everyone had a good nights sleep. It was way too hot and sticky here and I think it must have been after 3am when I finally did get to sleep.

Ninja, I am impressed with the contents of the goody bag. The value soon mounts up. I love Elizabeth Arden 8 hr cream but it is pricey. I always put it on my Christmas and birthday list. Elizabeth Arden do an 8 hr hand cream which absorbs into your skin without being greasy. Won’t leave marks on your keyboard. Good luck with today’s poisons. My chemo unit do the same thing - taking bloods on the day and leaving you hooked up to some saline while they are sent to the lab. They also leave my FEC on the table by my chair so I can curse it while I am waiting to start. Very therapeutic!

Bev, I can’t believe you still have leg hair. Mine disappeared completely after FEC2, as did the pit hair. Unlike Ninja’s which kept growing. Still have a few brave girls in the lady garden and stubble on my head, and something that might pass for eyebrows and lashes. But that is it.

Rach, I have an appt on Fri with onc. Only the second one since we first met end of April. I have no idea what he wants to discuss but I know I have LOADS of questions for him. I hope we get onto rads planning.

Chris, My onc said 18 rad sessions when we met the once. I wonder if he will stick with that. 3 weeks in total sounds better than 3 1/2. He also said he would start me on Arimidex once chemo is finished.

Jane, Thanks for the tip that difflam cuts through the metallic slime. Each cycle of chemo my mouth has been getting worse and last night my throat was sore too. Can you gargle with difflam?

Wandy, Hope you are safely back in France today. Wishing you very small SEs.

Def. gargle with Difflam - helps sore throats no end, and I’ve had enough for all of us! Think you have to persist for it to cut through the taste - won’t guarantee it’s instant!
My goodie bag was very similar, and I hadn’t added it up (thouight it was about £100), but as you say, when you put it all together… better than the usual kick up the whatsit! I was SO thrilled to have eyebrows back, and to be able to put them on whenever I wanted… I know… little things… but it’s not little when you don’t look like “yourself” is it? Jane

Hi all

Am very excited about LGFB now I know what’s in the goody bag.
Feeling much better today and aches are starting to subside.

Wandy-wishing you very petite side effects x
Bev/Jane the hair on my legs is def growing but my eyelashes have given up. Still have a few brows but very thin. I feel weird without lashes, they were long and black before! LG still there and have a few growing on my head. Can’t wait now to get it back.

Ninja and Cherryorchard-I have a blood test every week and the last one the day before my chemo so that they can check it before I go in. I had assumed everyone did the same. Good luck with onc appointment CO. And good luck Ninja with chemo.

Hello to anyone I haven’t mentioned and hope you’re all ok
Love Rachel x

Ninja thanks and ooooh the LGFB goody bag sounds fab and good luck with the poisons today - hope you catch some quality zzzz’s.
I too can’t wait now, but my LGFB is 26th Sept, wish I was coming with you ST on 9th (but may still be in my ‘bad’ stint then) as brows and lashes will have disappeared by then I reckon. I’ve never been good with make-up (mascara and a bit of blush really) so I’m struggling to understand how the brows/lashes things will work, but glad that they do.

I get a blood test on the Friday before chemo on the Monday, again thought everyone was the same.

CherryO - I see my onc every 3 weeks in my good week, just before next poisoning, I have one onc for chemo and a new one for Rads (I’ve met twice, once to sign consent and once when he saved me from hospital trauma last week - my hero!! I love him!! And he’s quite pleasing on the eyes too!!). It seems a long time since you’ve seen yours, but not sure what the ‘norm’ is for everyone.

Wandy - hope you’ve are ok this time around and are safely back in France. Wishing you a speedy week, hope it ain’t too rough…

PP - hope you’re not suffering too much (not seen you on here for a while hun) and are still managing to get your ‘duvet day’ at the MIL’s…hope little Jude is being a sweetie for you…

Rach - glad the aches are subsiding a little now - my heels are starting to hurt today, feels like I’ve been walking on hot sand all night??? Bizarre.

Hugs and waves to all that I’ve missed
Bev x

eyebrows I can do…(now) eyelashes (I’ve none now) are a different issue - I’ve put the Channel mascara away for another day!!!
I see an onc before every poison, and it’ll be the same onc for rads (though diff hospital. I’m quite pleased to have the continuity. He was very dismissive of my se’s in the middle bit (which I found emotionally toughest)… but by the last time when I saw him, had a whole different attitude… BCN had had a word with him!!! BLESS HER!!!

Have decided my future definitely does NOT lie in becoming a make up artist. All this talk of LGFB inspired me to tackle my thinning lashes and brows with eye pencil. I did it all so carefully and I look like-----Aunt Sally off Wurzel Gummidge! Back to the drawing board me thinks!

No worries, Rachel, they show you how to create eyebrows but I’d already had that lesson at The Haven.
I always draw mine in now if I’m going out somewhere more interesting than Tesco as the hate the way that my face looks so bland with skimpy lashes and very few brow hairs. I had been using a Benefit brow pencil but the tip snaps every time I sharpen it so it won’t last long. The one in the kit is a cream with a little chisel brush but you get shown how to apply it.

Newts are 2.0, had Herceptin already, being salined and pre-meds are looking at me in a bright yellow tray. Oh, what is that slogan, “Tax doesn’t have to be taxing”? it blooming well is.

Ninja are you gonna do the High-Heel-Athon for the Haven? Think I might dust mine off!

Tax is most def taxing no matter how you look at it x

Someone I know nicknamed it Tax-idermy because it stuffs you!

Hi all!!
Been ages I know but after a week of fog with FEC 3 it finally lifted last Friday just in time for my best mates wedding at weekend thank god!! Me and hubby went and had two night without the little chap and an awesome time! I donned my wig with my party frock and off we went- it was bloody fabulous!!! We laughed sooooo much and I drank lots of red wine but had loadsa water too. We danced all night until I could dance no more we trotted back to hotel at gone midnight me leading with hubby much worse for wear!! In morning I felt fab even thought cathedral bells woke us at 7 am!! Hubby however did not feel so great and I had to drive home!

The little one had great time at his granny’s and even let her lie in.

I have finally had week on my own with baba this week which has been lovely but hard work but I feel good for once!! He is struggling with heat as his eczema is bad but otherwise ok. I feel good so have been doing gentle exercise every morning as I have piled on the flab and its depressing me!!! What with no hair and one boob I really can’t abide being this big! I’m such a weird shape too as post baby body plus surgery has left me looking like a weeble!!!

Have to say I’m dreading tax starting next week - hoping it won’t hit me too bad but thinking that mute be wishful thinking! The GCSF injections seen to have done job this time and also no bowel issues so fingers crossed I manage to stay out of hospital this round!!

I’m thinking of going on LGFB is it any good?? I wear make up alot now as only thing that makes me feel half decnt and I have still got lashes and brows so is it worth it??

Hope everyone is getting through the shitty middle part- I know have found it ridiculously tough emotionally in last month and have had several breakdowns!!! Think I’m getting there but know it’s long haul yet!

Love to all and wish I could post more often but baba hardly sleeps in day now so busy bust and at night I’m catching up doing everything else!!!

Xxxxx

Welcome back PP. Having baba is a full-time job - we’ll be pleased to see you as and when…LGFB is fabulous! Loads goodies (everything from cleaners/toners/moisturisers to foundation/blusher/eye stuff (lashes and brows too)/lip stuff and perfume. What’s more, it’s fun, and there are sufficient staff to have someone behind you if you are struggling with anything (one between two) I was SO thrilled to find out how to put my eyebrows back in. They’d sloped off so quietly I hadn’t noticed what a difference they make. Now, I can make myself look “normal” when I want to! Go for it! There’s often quite a wait… Jane

PP, I did LGFB a few weeks ago and thought it was great. Get signed up as there’s quite a wait. xx

Hi PP good to know all is ok with you. We do tend to be worry warts when someone isn’t on. I know that I often read but don’t always post. Chris x

Hello PP, glad to hear things going well with you - the wedding sounds great!! And would agree with all that the LGFB session is really good, I went last month (luckily not too much of a wait round here in the East). Had thought I was going to be lucky and hang onto the brows and lashes, but are rapidly thinnning out this week …

Been feeling good last couple of days, so making the most of it before FEC5 on Fri. Finally got some post-mx bras I’d ordered and am really pleased with them, a real confidence boost. Strange what makes us happy these days?! Re check-ups/bloods, I get blood test and have appt with onc specialist nurse 3 days before each chemo. Will see onc 22nd August which is first time since inital appt in April, and told we will do rads planning. Interesting how it varies locally.

Evening guys.
Jane said: “there are sufficient staff to have someone behind you if you are struggling with anything (one between two)”

We had 11 people (one dropped out; should have been 12) and 3 helpers so 1 between 4. Two were from ‘make up counters’ and one was an ex-BC volunteer.

Feeling quite tired now. Hope everyone else is OK.

I’m fed up of being in Middling Meadow.
Status:
Herceptin Hill 3/17
Weekly Tax 7/15
Ranged into the 3-weekly regime thing 6/8
And no Rads planning for me - still to have surgery on October first :(((
