Starting Chemo in Nov 2011

Talking of Spooky…how about this!

Today I went to the Well Being Workshop called Anxiety Management with the hospitals occupational therapist, she was doing a small group meeting and just as she said “let’s look at things in black and white” a Magpie appeared on the wall in the garden behind where she was sitting! I couldn’t help myself by interrupting the Group to squeal OMG a Magpie!!! we have to salute it!!! or it will be bad luck - I was the only one in the Group to salute it, felt a right burk when the others looked at me in a puzzled way LOL, oh well I did my bit!

BTW the Anxiety Management didn’t do anything for me, was a complete waste of time IMHO - it was more like group counselling, was disappointed, oh well each to their own.

Hope every one is feeling ok getting through chemo without too many SE’s. Is anybody having Chemo before Mastectomy?

Nite nite sheep tight

Hi November ladies. I’ve not been on here for a couple of days as I have been busy. The SE from chemo 1 seem to have diminished and my killer headache has finally gone. I managed a light jog this morning but it really did me in so I really have got to learn that I can’t do what I normally do and to take things easy.

Daysie…I still salute magpies…and I say the rhyme depending on how many magpies there are!!

Gooseberry girl…all the best of luck for tomorrow.I hope the SE are ok. Big hugs x

time for bed

OMG If you could see the images I have in my head now  If you don’t have a cat or a trap have you got a bucket, deeper the better (better still if it has a lid) put some cheese in it and stand it up, try to make something for mouse to climb up then when it falls in it shouldn’t be able to get out. Put lid on or cover and take outside let it out near the neighbour you don’t like (if you have one) but not near yours or it might come back :frowning:

Tomorrows song, oh no that’s today now

LoL I’ve got a Cat and she brought a Mouse in tonight, the silly mouse was really confused and I managed to put my foot gently on it’s tail and hold it whilst we put a takeaway container over it and then the lid. Mouse was fine, just a bit dazed lol, we let it go at the bottom of the garden and kept my cat indoors! She is a very good mouser, best thing to get rid of them for good :o( is Rentokil with poisoned food, pack of 2 about £10. I tried the humane trap but the mouse was too quick in making off with the cheese and chocolate lol.

Morning! Had lots of posts to read…
I feel so empowered sometimes when I read these posts. So much so I rang the onc secretary yesterday to “firmly” ask why I was waiting so long for my initial appt. Reply, he has been on holiday and had a family crisis but we are holding extra clinics for priority cases.
Well if grade 3 invasive with lymph involvement isn’t I don’t know what is… Explained I was told 6 wks initially and it will be wk 9 when I eventually get there, I have no issues with fluid or infection . She then went on to say that he held many more clinics at another hospital local to me WHY HASN’T ANYONE THOUGHT TO SAY THIS BEFORE NOW! she is looking into it and will call me later today. Sometimes I feel those that shout the loudest get more attentive treatment. Sorry for the rant.

L4w glad you are on the up ,Granny I had the flu jab was advised to.

Libralady I have read the C word very good, just purchased even the eyebrows. Blaaah to cancer was also very insightful and funny at times. Good on you Judes for reporting your poor experience, someone else will now benefit, it may change the way she communicates in future, we can hope!

Just off to docs now to collect another sick note, go onto ssp next month reduction of 75% in wages for the next few months… oh joy. A bit whingey today I will improve as the day goes on! Hope everyone manages to have a good day xx

Hi Jackie

I thought everybody on chemo had one but my onc said No when I asked. I did wonder if it was cos they’d left it too late and didn’t want to risk the possible side effects of the jab (some people get mild flu like symptoms), because it’s a dead vaccine it can’t give you flu but may cause a slight fever and aches and pains. Interestingly this years vaccine is the same as last year so perhaps they don’t think it will be a big problem this year, with lots of people having an immunity to it already. I would ask your onc or chemo nurse, they know better the risks, when I visited my Dr (Locum (sp?)) at the weekend and told him I was on FEC he just looked at me blank!

L4W

hi love iam tracy iam 5 years in remimon now but even back then hi had a holiday booked so hi told the docs this the plan was to start my treament when hi came back ie bone scan and ct scan and when hi came back there were letters for these when hi phoned them they had to re do them hi was so mad so hi no how you feel you will be ok with the chemo love its not has bad has you think good luck with it take care tracy xx

Shelle

You rant away and keep ringing them. I don’t think for one minute that the delay will have any adverse effect on your prognosis but WHY should you wait cos he’s been on holiday, surely he doesn’t work alone and someone else could step in. Who you see shouldn’t make a difference all they’ll do is tell you what treatment you’re having and the possible side effects, then give you a start date.

grrrrrrrr, go get em

2 years ago I had to have the swine flu and seasonal flu jabs during Chemo and had to have 2 of each as the Chemo can reduce the effectiveness and was told to have it very year or 5 years. And thisvyear before Chemo started I was given a leaflet from my oncologist to get flu and pneumococcal jabs before starting Chemo.

What is their reason for you not having the flu jab? It doesn’t give you flu as it’s not a live vaccine but can give flu-like symptoms as your bodies immune response kicks in. If we are to avoid getting infections it seems a bit odd that you are being recommended not to have the flu vacc when healthy non-chemofied individuals can be hospitalised with flu.

I’m just wondering what the rationale is really.

Shelle I hope you can get the appointment issue resolved quickly

Lulu x

for those asking about flu jab, my onc recommended one, and i had no reaction to it at all, i find it so starnge that people can get different responses to whether or not to have one

Shelle, good on you chasing up your appoint, fingers crossed you get some news today (was going to say gppd news, but maybe not!!)

Gooseberry girl, thinking of you today

Lizzy - glad you managed to shake off that headache, and fair play going for a jog yesterday

Jude - on chemo day itself, i was fine eating, had no immediate se’s so having lunch was no problem at all

L4W / jean - how about Bodacious Bald Belles, i know most of us not actually bald yet…

Hope all have good day xx

Hi All,
Re Mouse problem, Having worked in the most “Godforsaken” houses in the world via job for seriuosly weathy… Mice love Chocolate, much more effective than cheese in a trap… the plastic traps are very good if seriously lethal… extra strong spring, mouse never knows what hit it !
All ready for first session… Thanks for good wishes, will drink loads and let you know how it goes…good luck to everyone else on the Nov Thread.
I had Flu Jab about 2/3 weeks ago followed by pnumonia, felt awful for 3 days, oncologist recommended them, Every little helps in fight against infection.
OK…I’m going in wish me luck x

Hi November gang

I’ve been a bit quiet lately, but had to comment on Daysie’s post, I am having chemo before mx as I have Inflamatoy breast cancer which is agressive so they zap it first, then cut it, then rad it!

I have booked my flu jab for Friday, the chemo nurse told me to time it for the week before my next chemo, but I have read that others have been told not to have it so it is very dependant on where you are.

I had a rough week after my first TAC but much better this week and working from home which I am lucky that I can do, got TAC2 on 17th bloods permitting!

hugs to all and good luck to those getting treatment this week

Weme
