Starting Chemo in October

Evening ladies… when I went to a Headstrong session about scarf tying, they gave me a scarf which came with a silk strip which toned - looked very pretty. The website they got it from is theindiashop.co.uk, and, if you order 3 cotton headsquares they send you 3 toning/matching silk strips free… if anyone’s interested… now that I’m beginning to grow fuzz, the silk strips are useful little neck scarves. Hope all goes well ladies - thinking of you… if any of you want a laugh now and then, may I invite you to venture into the Dark Wood, where you are invited to pitch tent, turn up at the pub, lie by the lagoon and generall be nutty? From there you can progress to Rads Rushes or Tamoxifen Towers or sundry other add ons, as the mood takes us… we have two dogs (Buggerit and Soddit) and a duck (Ducky!) do drop in - there’s a toga party tonight!

Hi Ladies
I’m starting chemo on 3 Oct so would like to join your link. This is my 2nd time and I had EC and Tax first time round. I’m having Gemcarbo this time through a hickman line. I managed to get through without delays last time so fingers crossed.
I’ve decided to buy myself some glittery high heels to wear to chemo to make me smile. I’m just getting cheap ones as probably won’t wear again but just thought they might brighten up the chemo days.
Good luck ladies. Keep smiling and laugh whenever you can. It really helps x

Hope everything goes well for you today.xxxx

Good luck for today to all the Sept/Oct gang.

Thanks to all who’ve posted to say things are notsobad. It’s really reasuring for us terrified newbies.

I’m keeping myself busy trying not to think about next week, but the fear is never far away and I keep remembering those of you who start(ed) this week.

Sending love, hugs and positive energy to all.

Hi Nats, sorry you had to join us but welcome.

I have my first chemo today, and do feel like I should have a special outfit, although I really just want to be in my comfy Jim jams! Like the sparkly high heels idea, I bet it will make everyone smile

Hugs to all

Jules

Update - just back from my first chemo session, and all is well. The time flew by and I didn’t even have time to have my sweeties that I took with me!. Feeling a bit spaced out, but not too abnormnal. Left with a supply of antisickness tablets and some difflam mouthwash (just in case). Going to try and drink plenty and just take it easy

Jules, hope your first session is kind to you

Nats - welcome, but sorry you had to join us

Hi ladies

Nats - welcome to our little gang, wishing you all the best for 3rd october. Loving the glittery high heels idea…may have to thief that idea if you dont mind, i love my heels!

Jules - hope all goes/has gone well for you today x

Dizzycloud - Glad it wasnt too harrowing for you, take it easy x

Simone - I do hope your ok after your first session yesterday xx

I had my nuclear injection and bone scan today and was nowhere near as scary as i thought it was going to be. Was lucky enough not even to have to wait, the lady actually had to call my name twice waiting for the injection as me n my friend were gasbagging hehe

Had to drink loads of water in between injection and scan. We also went to pizza hut for lunch…mmmm buffet styly yum yum

Managed to pop into the chemo suite and book my picc line insertion for couple days before chemo starts (12th)

Also been to docs and got my prescription exempt form signed and sent off and a prescription ready if i need it (thanks simone for that tip)

Hope everyone else is ok xx

Hi ladies, like many I’ve been lurking around just reading all the posts and noting the top tips. I don’t yet have a fixed date for starting chemo but the onc has told me today that I am to start in about two weeks. This puts me in the October club!

I’ve started getting my chemo caddy (well a list of things anyway), but I don’t have a clue about getting a wig sorted. I think I’ll get a hair appointment soon. I’m off for a flu jab in the morning, but typing this it occurs to me that my OH should probably have one too.

I had to have another chest xray today and more bloods taken. They have such trouble getting a vein and have offerded me a picc line. To me that sounds horrific, the thought of it makes me shudder!!

Anyway, just thought I’d say hello.

Hope everyone who’s started on this road is doing well so far.

Lynda x

Hi all,

Dizzy - glad you went ok

Simone - glad your Scan wasn’t as bad as you feared.

Scissors - sorry you are here but welcome

Update - like Dizzy my first session went ok. I used the cold cap and I have to say the first 15 minutes were awful, but after that it really was fine, no problem at all, definitely worth giving it a go. There was a woman there on her last FEC and she had used the cap, she had an ok head of hair left, thin but she said it wasn’t thick to start with. Had the drugs through my hand, my veins are ok I think so not going to get a line unless I have to. Again there was another lady who had all her FEC through her hand and it was fine, no discolouration or anything. Some of the drugs did sting a bit as they went in, and the red one had a very funny side effect, kind of itchy pins and needles ‘down below’ if you know what I mean! The nurse had warned me and it only lasted a minute but was very weird. Was there quite a while because of the cap but the actual treatment only took half an hour. It’s given while you a hooked up to a saline drip and you then have to wait for the rest of the saline to flush through.

I didn’t have any immediate effects and feel fine, a bit tired but it’s been a long day. Came home with the anti sickness drugs but nothing else.

Anyways, it was definitely doable, just need to take it day by day now, and it was so nice to chat with the other ladies who are further along.

Hugs to all

Hey Ladies and Newbies of Octoberland, and she’s up again!!! Whilst the rest of me is quite tough I have the tummy of a kitten!!! To be fair though, only been sick a couple of times and just feel like I’ve got a dose of flu, not great but all doable! Will be checking up on thread posts and hope everyone is doing ok, Simone xxx

Glad you’re ok Simone, big hugs

Hi again, hoping for a cooler day today!

Simone - glad you are ok, hope your sickness subsides x

Clare - you are so well organised, goodness knows when I will get round to the Christmas shopping!

Jules - you are brave having the cold cap, I knew I would be hopeless with it and couldn’t have coped with the coldness!. I had the EC chemo, and the wierdest feeling was the clear “C” one going in, my nose and head felt a bit “bubbly”, but I did not get a metallic taste x

Almost at the end of my antisickness tablets for this cycle, and so far so good. Not felt nauseous at all. Hate the taste of one of them though - the raspberry flavoured one - euww!!. No constipation yet, but thought I was going to be - sorry if too much information! lol xx

Morning all,

So glad you are back with us Simone, hope the sickness is subsiding now.

Dizzy - my sickness meds have worked well too, in fact I feel remarkably fine and am waiting form some big crashing down to occur, but hopefully not.

Clare - You are so very organised, I think I will try to use the good old inter web as much as poss for xmas shopping this year.

Off to Al Murray tonight, be nice to have a laugh.

Hugs to all

Jules

Well I was supposed to start on Friday but on thurs night looked down as I took my clothes off and noticed swelling and redness, and what looked like a blister on one end of the wound, so arrived at the unit the next morning, doctor called and no, no chemo for me . Looks like another bleeding infection. I’ve been waiting for a month for the last one to clear up enough for me to have chemo

Back on mega anti biotics, meanwhile seroma in breast is leaking out of blister. It’s happened before so I knew what it was otherwise would have been completely freaked out. Appointment with surgeon on monday who I think will say to stay on antibiotics for the week and we’ll see. Best case scenario it clears up in a week and i can start end of next week, worst case, it’s another op to take the tissue expander out. I think it’s that that is causing all the problems. And chemo is delayed for another month! grrrrr

I think i can have reconstruction later even if the implants out but it may not be as good. At the moment I don’t care - I just want to get all the treatment over with!

On the upside I don’t feel I’ll, have no temperature and it must be a small localised infection that has been caught early. The other upside is that if it’s only delayed by ten days or so I’ll have a better Christmas with the timings!

And I get to enjoy this last weekend of summer a bit more than if I was post chemo i suspect. But actually very fed up with delay. Quite down secretly yesterday.

Good to hear that you’re all doing ok after yours though

Xx
Alison

And so glad you were able to use your al Murray tickets Harriet!
