Starting chemo in October

Hi story so far welcome to the October pumpkins x

I came down with a cough last night I think I’ll call doc tomorrow, but I know our surgery is’nt keen on giving out antibiotics, dont know if its a cold or just my allergy to dust mite, (sweeping under bed yesterday). But I dont want to delay treatment sooner we all get this chemo over with the better eh folks

good evening Pumpkins
How often do you guys see your onc? I had two appointments post surgery, one to discuss chemo and the second to give him my decision but I have not had any other appointments. I am not particularly concerned but just curious as I have read on other threads that people seem to meet theirs more regularly. I realise that for those having chemo before surgery will need close monitoring during chemo. Also does anyone know the dfference between FEC 75 and FEC 100? Perhaps these are questions for my BCN but thought I would ask you guys.
Sleep well all and take care x

Welcome to the Pumpkins, ā€˜story so far’.
Nonni: i am in Sheffield, they have a really good cancer centre at Weston Park, and an emergency out of hours chemo alert number which I’m sure you could get hold of. I’m on day 9 of 1st TAC now, and feeling definitely more human and much less nauseous. Hurrah!
Have a good day, all Pumpkins. We are a good lot! Xxx

Hi jayne m sorry don’t know the difference between fec 75 and fec 100, I’m having fec 100. I have got appointments with my onc a few days before each chemo session x

Just washed my hair for the first time in 5 days - I cannot believe that I stil have hair with the amount that came out, I had to clear the plug in the shower three times to avoid a flood! I am still hoping that the cold cap has worked even if only for a much thinner head of hair. People do say the shedding slows down but no sign of that so far…

Thanks for the info about Weston Park Little Bear, not sure if I will be heading North this week after all as I’ve woken this morning feeling as if someone has stamped all over my body. Difficult to judge if it’s related to the FEC or to seronegative arthritis, will have to watch how things develop

Hi Nonni385 I felt like that too about 9 days after first FEC but luckily it only lasted a day, I was convinced I was coming down with something so kept taking my temperature but I was fine - perhaps it is the lowest immunity period kicking in?

Nonni: So sorry you’ve taken a dip today. Let us know how you go on. Fingers crossed xx

Hi all
Nonni like Jayne I felt like that for me it was on day 11 just about managed to take the kids to school then crawled back into bed and stayed there! Hope you feel better soon it would be a shame if you didn’t get to your mums for some well deserved pampering!
I’m now day 14 and feeling better although energy levels are easily depleted! On the train at the moment on my way to my Headstrong appointment to find out more about scarf tying! Will let you know any top tips I pick up! Hair looks like it might be on its way out today as slowly shedding but I have lots of hair so I think it might take a while!
Take care pumpkins
xx

Hi pumpkins,
A little worried today as i have had a cold coming over the past couple of days and today it is worse, I am due my second fec on monday will this effect me having my next round??

Hi pumpkins
I’m on day 16 and still have hair- expecting shedding to start any day now!
I had a long walk yesterday and also went to a ā€œsupport groupā€ drop-in for women with cancer. I didn’t feel like I ā€˜needed support’ but it struck me that over that over the last few weeks I hadn’t actually had a face to face conversation with anyone who’s been through/ is having chemo. Although they’ve been fantastic, everyone I’ve seen so far have been medical practitioners.
So it was nice to speak to a few women- not just with breast cancer - and I would say breast cancer does seem to have extra support/ awareness compared to other types.
However here is a good tip I picked up for the bad taste following chemo. Try ice-lollies (pure ice- not ice cream) and also jelly. These also help to keep your fluid levels up. So I’ll be trying those next week when I have my second FEC chemo.
Good to read how everyone is getting on. The great thing about this forum, it that it’s about the only place we can relate to others going through this at the same time.

Thanks for your welcomes. I am a bit nervous as to what kind of symptoms I will get this time tomorrow. Will I get the same ones? Ive been told that I must stop worrying about everything and realise that this medicine will make me well and that I must visualise this happening. I am going to try being somewhere that I really love while chemo is given to me and hope that I cope better this time round. Has anyone else been advised to do this?
Have felt quite cold since my hair started to fall out but now that I am wearing a little jersey hat it is so much better. It makes me look like a garden pixie though! Perhaps after lunch I will do some ironing to stop myself from thinking about everything or even make some cakes.

I too have a cold Jenxroch and coughing up green gunk yuck. Doc put me on a week course of antibiotics and took bloods to check white blood cell levels. Best to get it checked out Jenxroch rather than let it get too bad which could cause a neutropenic infection. I too am supposed to be getting next chemo session next week fingers crossed for us both.

Sorry don’t know why last post has appeared three times x

Hi all

Day 18 of first FEC hair started coming out a little yesterday but today it’s coming out by the handful, my scalp is really sore has anyone got any ideas on how to help with this x

Thanks Raonaid, I saw the Doc yesterday and he said I was fine as i did not have temp. However this does not fill me with confidence as he was the doc i saw when i had a LUMP and was told i was too young to have bc. I am going to have bloods done tomorrow so fingers crossed. I will keep my fingers crossed for you too and hope you are better soon

Hi Pumpkins
Day 14 for me too. Feeling good
Been into town with my mum & started xmas shopping for Princess. My bandanas arrived from ANNABANDANA. Thrilled with them!! They fit lovely, have loads of choice & the price is very reasonable (i got 2 for less than £10 incl p&p!). I have a black & white one and a pink one with liquorice allsorts on it (& yes Princess has been caught walking round with it on!!) May as well have some fun with headgear eh?! Will def be online 2moro ordering more!!!
Hair is def starting to shed. I have quite thick hair & its looking thinner at the sides. My wig isnt ready at the hairdressers yet & she reckons cos i have thick hair it’ll take a few days before i need drastic haircut. Hmmmmmm, we’ll see! I may be resorting to asking a mate to razor it if the hairdresser is shut!!
Jenxroch - glad u seem ok but if you’re not happy, insist on another appt! Was it your GP you saw or a doc from oncology?
Raonaid - fingers x’d for you!
Story So Far - as you will be able to tell from our posts, we all seem to be reacting differently but there are common factors, ie, nausea, feeling fed up, aches & niggles. And each session will probably be different. I find by reading through everyones posts, if i have something im worried about its about 90% def that someone on here is experiencing or has experienced the same. I wasnt concerned about my ā€˜just got off a sunbed’ flush when it happened cos i had read about it on here… x
Glad everyone seems to be ok considering… Take care girlies xxx

Morning all Pumpkins!
Seems to be the cold season coinciding with our low count points; I have one too but no temp. Hope you feel better Jenxroch & Raonaid.
Gail: don’t know about the sore head, I’ve only just started shedding (day 10), but bit sore already. Top tips welcome!
Ribby: I got some headgear from annabandana too & really like it. Glad the Princess is enjoying it too!!
Have a good day Pumpkins - we’re one day nearer end of chemo!! Xxx
