Starting chemo in October

Hi Pumpkins
Well today my eye lashes and eyebrows are itching - almost as strange was when my hair hurt a few weeks ago. I guess this means they will start to shed, oh well, I have managed to get over half way through with them. I am useless at make-up and only ever wear a little blusher, eye shadow, mascara and lippy and only then if I am going to work or out for the evening. I did buy some eyeliner today but hopeless at applying it . I have looked into the Look good feel better sessions but there are none that near to me and I tend to avoid make-up sessions as I always feel pushed into using foundation etc which I will never do as I feel claustrophobic with any skin makeup.
Other than that I am feeling really well day 10 after FEC 3. The first week was definately worse thatn the first two and I felt really tired and felt very down too, it was hard to imagine what feeling well was like but since Thursday I have felt great, better than the first two at the same stage - very strange this chemo and I guess we really can’t predict one session to the next.

I hope all who have had chemo this week are getting through it and the rest are making the most of the in-between times.
xx

Hi Pumpkins
I see some of you are suffering with itchy eyes… i have stinging eyes! They feel quite dry & i wake up with crusts either side of my nose! They dont seem too red & arent watering. Does anyone know if i can use optrex or am i best waiting to ring my GP 2moro?
I initially put it down to being tired (4 nites of very little sleep) but i had 10 hours last nite!!
Feel like im getting a cold too, very snotty & dry cough at nite. Oh dearie me…! Feeling kinda sorry for myself! And next chemo due on Friday so need to get myself sorted!!!
Still got my tastebuds, so off for yet another hot chocolate! Purely on doctors orders of course - although i still think they should be available on prescription!!

Hi everyone,
Chemo 3 on Thursday half way through Wont be wearing that horrid cold cap this time as not much hair left have been wearing bandanas got my wig at the ready but not tried it yet.My eyes have been watering but seem a little better this week. Not looking forward to chemo and all that goes with it ,just as you start to feel well its time to go back and start all over again! The good thing is it seems to be going quite fast, so hope it carries on one more before Xmas then two after and 4weeks rest before radiotheraphy.
Good Luck to everyone and take care

Good Morning Pumkins
There have been a couple of posts about sore eyes and I have them too so I have just spoken to my BCN and she was most concerned to know if they were crusty, red or swollen in the corners (they are not) but Ribby, you said your eyes were crusty. She advised that any sign of those symptoms and I should go straight to the Chemo unit or at least the GP and get antibiotic eye drops as infection can set in quickly. As mine are just itchy, she advised artificial tear drops from the chemist and to wear light sun glasses when out and about as without our normal number of eyelashes, our eys are not as protected from dust etc.

Apart from the eyes, I am feeling good 11 days post FEC so maing the most of it!

Good luck to all of you having chemo this week xxxxx

Hi all

I get artificial tears from my onc rather than paying for them.

Just got back from chemo that’s 3 down 5 to go looking forward to the next one then I can say I’m half way through.

Gail xx

Good Afternoon all Pumpkins,

Gail, glad you’re back home, hope you feel ok this evening.

Suzee, hope it went ok today.

Ribby, hope cold is better soon, and that you enjoy the hot choc!

Kirstie, good luck for Thursday.

Raonaid, hope you’ve recovered from long trek for PICC line - when’s your next chemo?

I also have a cold, and having had friends to visit this morning am crashed now so I can entertain a friend again this evening!

Looking forward to more updates Pumpkins. We’re doing good! Xx

Glad you are back Gail and I hope the next fews days are kind to you. I hope your chemo went well too Suzee.
I managed to do some Christmas shopping today, I cant cope with the weekend crowds (as much lack of patience as lack of energy!) so went into town for a couple of hours when it was quiet. Feel tired now so feet up and watching countdown to keep chemo brain functioning!
I had an invite to the work Xmas lunch which will be two weeks after my next FEC - not sure whether to accept as it is in the middle of town so will be crowded and busy and I am not good with crowds at the moment
I hope you all get over your colds xxx

hi pumpkins,
well another 8 1/2 hrs at hospital today, had to have blood retested, then wait for the results, then wait for treatment to be sent up, then they’d forgot to turn cold cap machine on so had to wait another 1 1/2 hrs for that to be cold enough.
so didn’t get home until 7pm from 10am this morning good job i only live about 8 min from hospital
thank you for your well wishes
hope every body feeling ok and gail hope yours went better than mine lol

big hugs xx
suzee

Well done Suzee, what a long day. i thought i did bad with 5 hours after daft district nurse moved my picc line and had to wait for xrays
Ribby, hope your eyes are better, good info Jayne re eye infections we can all remember that if it happens to us too.

hi amd66,

Hi Pumpkins
So soo sooo fed up of the insomnia thats seems to have cropped up on me this last week. Im awake at 2am every morning - this morning i didnt get back to sleep til 6am :frowning:
Eyes dont feel too bad today actually… Went to onc & was told they were too busy to see me so to make an appt with GP. But 2moro i have to wait in all day for the district nurse so am thinking i’ll try to make an appt late afternoon/early evening.
Been to the Look Good Feel Better session today. Nearly didnt go as i was feeling so tired but i am so glad i dragged my sorry ass there! It was just what i needed. Good chat, good skincare/make up advice, met some lovely ladies & came out with a bag of freebies! Result! I actually felt so much better for going. I really do need to take my own advice & make a determined effort to get out of the house, even if its just a walk to the end of the street. I actually think the reason im more tired this session is because i havent been as busy - i havent had many visitors (they must be bored of me!) & generally the pace of appts etc has been slower.
Just hoping this fatigue/insomnia doesnt make my next session on friday worse. I will be asking for a different antisickness tho as i really dont fancy irritating my heartburn as i seem to have it more under control…
Glad everyone seem so be ok. Im still suffering with a runny nose - have a tissue permanently stuck to my face but apart from that, the cold seem so be at bay…
Keep strong girls… we are all doing so well xxx

Going to make the best of my last good day before chemo on Wed, and meeting a friend for a natter. I too have runny nose, not a cold Ithink its the wee hairs in my nose have gone. My eyes are runny and nippy too.
I hate hate hate these bloody mouth ulsers. I’ve started to use Gengigel mouth wash, its less harsh than the usual mouth washes it has Hyaluronan which according to the packet is a naturally occurring component found in gums that helps natural healing process so here’s hoping.
Ribby72 my wake up time is 3am every night its a pain.
Suzzee64 I would be at screaming point if I had to hang about hospital that long
Ribby72 any good skin care advice you can pass on to us.
Little bear hope your cold is getting better
We’re getting there girls.

Raonaid, I have had trouble with mouth ulcers in the past before chemo. Gengigel is the best mouthwash I found, also get a gentle toothpaste - the best I found is called Squigle which I used to get from a website called mouthulcers.co.uk (they have a lot of good tips and products). I think you can also get Squigle from ebay. They are miserable.
My 2nd chemo last week got cancelld - low neutrophils. Hopefully going ahead today. Just wanna get on with it and over with!

Hi all

Ribby I went on the look good feel better session too and like you I’m so glad I did.
Suzee64 hope you’re feeling okay today after the nightmare you had yesterday.
Raonaid I use Difflam oral rinse, it is really good it numbs your mouth completely.

As for the sleeping ladies I am awake every hour, not sure if it’s worth asking for some sleeping tablets, what do you think?

Let’s hope for a good day. Big hugs to all
Gail xx

Ribby - like you I have been more tired and I also think it is becaue I havent been as busy, normally the weekend after Thursday Chemo I am out and about, shopping with my daughter but cant face the shops at the weekend now they are so hot and busy so I need to find somewhere else to drag myself out to!

I have tried to book Look good feel better but all booked up until the new year - there is one this pm and I have to call later this morning to see if there are any cancellations - fingers crossed x

I am also havng sleep problems and wake up a lot during the night and stay awake, I am seeing the onc on Friday and will ask about sleeping tables, particularly for the steriod days as last time I managed 2 hours sleep the first night and 3 hours the second which I’m sure doesnt help with the overall tiredness.

I have a session with a personal trainer at lunchtime so that should wake me up!

I hope you all have a good day x

Hi pumpkins.
feeling very well after FEC 2 last Friday. Almost normal. Though I did go out shopping yesterday into city and got home absolutely knackered.
i seem to be struggling to see in the dark? I was driving, got home @ 6pm and was really struggling to see on the dark country roads. Has anybody else noticed this?
Hoping now to get back to normal sleeping pattern - had the last of the steroids yesterday, haven’t been going to bed til 4am as not tired. Lucky I don’t have anything to get up early for.
I have worn the dreaded cold cap for my 2 chemo’s so far. Upset now that after all that coldness and pain i am now losing a lot of hair from the top of my head. I have a central parting which is now way wide going back even wider to my crown. Where there is a huge ā€œmonksā€ area of scalp showing. All lower down hair is cut short and is hanging on in there. Not enough hair to do a comb over. I went in Primark yesterday and bought some lovely hair bands and scarves, got a friend coming round today and we’re going to See what we can do with them.
I am booked on the next local Look good feel better course which in not til the end of Jan. seems they don’t run in December. Something to look forward to I guess.
all in consideration chemo is going way better than I expected For me.
best wishes to you all for a good day today
