Hi all AAAs,
Hope you’ll have room for another late starter! I was dx on March 11, wle and snb on March 18 and am now due to start chemo on April 18. Been today (Tuesday) for pre chemo chat and bloods and it still seems quite surreal. Don’t know when it’s actually going to hit home that I have (or in my mind, had) cancer and that pretty soon I might be feeling quite poorly and bald. My cancer was quite small - 15mm, the margins were clear and no evidence at all in the three nodes they took. From the biopsy it appeared to be grade three triple negative but pathology came back as grade three with 5/8 oestrogen receptors. So treatment for me is 6xEC (no F or T), rads and amiridex for five years. I intend to use the cold cap for at least the first session but am going to Leeds tomorrow with my two daughters to try on some wigs. I’ve been reading through your posts and have found them very informative, inspiring and reassuring. Hope I’ll be able to contribute positively as an Awesome April Angel. Moira
Hi Moira,
You have posted in the wrong bit! This is the thread for the April Awesome Angels. Worry not, it’s easy done. xxxx
Hi Moira, hope you find the Angels thanks to Lola’s link, and good luck with EC. You might be lucky with cold cap and not lose your hair.

Thanks Lori and Poemsgalore. I’ve reposted on the Angels thread now - or at least I think I have. By the way I should mention that I will be 62 in early May and would love to wake up on my birthday with some of my own hair - which is why I’m giving the cold cap a go. After this first cycle I’ll probably have a rethink. My newly cut short brown hair would be very grey if not for hair dye so spending four or five months with sparse, fine, white rooted lank hair doesn’t appeal too much. Think I’ll rip it up and start again. You never know, it may grow back lustrous dark brown curls! Moira xxx
Moira - I’ve just finished FEC x6, using the cold cap, and have kept all my hair. It doesn’t work for everyone, but it certainly works for some, and it’s well worth persevering with. Good luck!
… And I didn’t use a cold cap, but ended up only really going bald on the sides of my head (4 treatments of AC chemo) … I could have had a Mohawk style!!! (if I hadn’t shaved it all off!! : o)
Just recently started on Paclitaxel weekly for 12 weeks and my hair is definitely regrowing … Hard to see what colour yet, and too short to say whether it’ll be curly, but I’m enjoying my “fuzz”!! ![]()
Hi Morwenna
i am on 4 x AC followed by 4 x Tax and was told I would almost certainly lose my hair on Tax so i decided not to waste my time trying cold cap so I’ll be interested to see if you keep your hair on Tax also…fingers crossed you like the new colour and maybe curls!

Hi, I was on EC chemo, tried cold cap but found I couldnt cope with it…had head ache within seconds. I shaved my hair after it began to come out…it began to grow after the 4th chemo. I finshed 8 weeks ago. It has come back black and white…just call me Cruella…did buy a wig and wore it when it was really short. I got so hot and bothered Ive stopped wearing it now and am embracing my short hair. I confidently sit in restaurants and pubs and no one seems to look or stare. I am popping into my work…where I am a deputy head of 460 children. I shall tell them its the Jessie J look once I remove my hat. I find putting on make up helps to brighten up my eyes (didnt lose eyelashes and brows just thinned) and a bit of lippy. Good luck with everything,
Mel xx
Hi, just got to say that Jessie J shaving her head has been a blessing for all we chemo babes. Added to that, my daughter tells me that turbans are now in fashion and to prove it she says you can even buy them in Primark! Thanks for all the helpful insight into hair or no hair but after my visit to the wig shop I’ve decided not to cc. The wig’s in a box with my name on it waiting for my prescription to be faxed to the shop. Just hope it isn’t toooooo warm in our lovely hot summer to come. Night, night everyone,
Moira xx
