STARTING CHEMOTHERAPY IN SEPT

I am watching Masterchef. Yum!

I watch Jamie every day and just wish he could come round and cook my tea for me!
Having number 4 next week and still hanging on to the eyelashes & brows.
I have my treatment at home and my cat always comes and sits on my lap while I’m having it which he doesn’t do at any other time. Strange huh?

Had no 3 fec today,so half way there, woo hoo! Just waiting for that brick wall to hit me now. Tax next & soooo not looking forward to that. Trying to drink loads to flush it out & still hanging onto eyelashes & brows.

Good luck & hope all goes well Ladies

Claire x

Glad to know there are still so many eyelashes and eyebrows knocking about. I have still got mine too but I have only just had EC number two so perhaps it’s not indicative BUT if some of you ladies hitting the fourth round are STILL hanging on to them maybe there is hope???

Lulu XX

Claire I hope that brick wall is made of rubber…

Definetly go for the cat Lulu. Mine are getting fed so much more now I am home all day that we are competing with who is going to put the largest percentage weight gain on by Xmas. They have been such good company for me and it’s nice that i’m not the only chubby one who spends afternoons fast asleep on the sofa!
Well, early days for FEC4 (had it on Tuesday) but so far feeling ok.
A good weekend to all
Ali.

I resemble a baby orangutan hairwise. I haven’t got the nerve to shave it all off yet. FEC 3 on Monday, eyebrows and eyelashes still with me… for now. I also am not looking forward to tax 8-(. Still, at least my onc appears to be excited by Tax.At least one of us is lol. Still don’t know whether I will have 3 or 4 FEC.
Have a great weekend all. I am going to an ice hockey match on Sunday, looking forward to that big time!

Hi All

Had third fec on Wednesday and feel rougher this time around. I had a cold and the onc said that altho my blood count had dipped it was high enough to cope!!!

Have just got another couple of fringes, different shade, and cannot recommend them highly enough. I get them from ebay clip in fringes.
She is fantastic will make them to measure and they look great. Loads of different colours and mounted on velcro to stick to scarves or hats. I get two, one for front and the other for the neck. More comfy to wear than a wig and gives the impression of hair.Cheap too.

Eyelashes and eyebrows still there tho the former are thinning. Got false ones ready.

Anyone see the article in the mag with the Daily Mail?
Ade Edmonson talking about his wife’s breast cancer. OH read it and totally emphasised. Worth a look.

Lulu- Get the cat!! Saves talking to yourself.I can have quite a long conversation with mine!!!

Keep well

Hi Ladies,

Well 3rd cycle of Epirubicin went well on Thursday and so far I have felt a lot better than the last time around. Not so tired and got a slightly better nights sleep. Found out that taking the dexmethasone around 10pm was the problem last time keeping me awake. I didn’t realise it was a steroid - doh! So now taking it no later than 4pm.

Still feel a bit nauseous but even the thought of taking the array of cocktail tablets makes me heave.

Last time around I lost my taste buds for about 3 days. Went for a McDonalds with my youngest son and might as well have been chewing the cardboard box as the Big Mac. However taste came back fairly quickly. I still have my eyebrows and eyelashes too. Just tried plucking a few stray eyebrow hairs and they are firmly holding on.

This is my 3rd of 4 Epirubicins then I go on to 4 CMFs so nearly half way there.

Good luck to everyone with their chemo. Will be thinking about you. Take care Gill xx

Had my thrid fec on friday 22nd. All going well so far. I do get a little bit of nausea creeping ariesgirl63 but am finding that wearing my sea bands are really helping with that. I have been taking my last steroid pre 2pm and this means I get a good nights sleep.

I still have as much as hair as I did pre second fec and nurse said that by looks of things the cold cap is working for me so I hope that encourages anyone hoping to try it. Fingers crossed it keeps working, don’t think i will relax until I am at the end. There has been hairloss eleswhere which I only really noticed the other day but eyebrows and lashes still intact, still tweezering the brows.

Hope everyone else doing ok and having a nice weekend. I don’t have a cat but have a wee dog called Mylo so understand the unconditional love and joy these wee creatures bring you - going out for big walk in park now while sun is shining.
x

Hi Isobel
where do you get the sea band from? Nausea is my main SE so anything I could do to counteract it would be brill.

Andi I took your advice and ordered a fringe on Ebay. See if I manage to look less like a Polish girl going potato picking when I have my scarf/kerchief on.

Re: cat… might have to be put on hold for now. OH adamant that we should wait. He reckons it will seriously restrict our movements (true I know). Oh well, can’t push that one too much as he has been absolutely brilliant with me ever since I was diagnosed. We shall see. But it’s nice to know there are many cat lovers on this thread-and dog…

Lovely weather here (unexpected as forecast had said it was going to be nasty all weekend. In truth I have stopped taking notice of the weather forecast. It’s like believing in fairytales) so might venture out for walk.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend ladies. Onwards and upwards.

Hi all
Thought I was getting away lightly with first FEC saw onc Friday said apart from really bad wind (both ends) had felt ok. Spoke to soon Saturday developed mouth ulcer had a shower and noticed hair coming out. Took the plunge got my OH to shave it off . Feel bit achey today shocked myself bald head looking in mirror got bit weepy.
Hope I feel brighter tomorrow at least I know it’s working and blasting nasty cells.
Since my cat got used to me being home she thinks it’s a food festival constantly scrounging she’s so funny.
Maggienic xx

Lulu, I got my sea bands in M&S of all places. But I believe you can get them in pound shops and chemists too. They are intended for travel.

Maggienic - you are the first to mention wind. I haven’t had painful wind but I am certainly more windy than normal - poor BF! I never knew that was a potential side effect.

Drinking as much fluids as possible definately helps I think. On the day of chemo (its usually 1pm appointment) I have a good breakfast then I don’t eat again until after chemo by which time I am ravenous and anti sick tablets are working. I prob drink about 8 litres of water. Does mean that I am trailing to the loo loads of times dragging my drip with me. By the time I have left the hospital I have been enough times that all the red from the epi is gone - so that must show it flushing quickly.

Hi All

Maggienic- It is shocking when you first go bald. I shaved mine off two days after my 2nd FEC and,24 days later, have about 12mm of growth where it hadn’t fallen out and stubble where it had!I am sure it will all go before the 4th FEC but at least I know it will grow.

Lulu- It will look great. CANNOT recommend them highly enough. My sis in law reckons the fringe/hat look has knocked ten years off me.
That and the make up!

It is half term and onc given me steroids to see it through, my lively lads are 5 and 9 and need to burn off energy -LOTS!
Trying to keep up!!!

Onwards and upwards girls.

Keep well
Andi

Hi All

Just realised that its ages since I was on this site and posted a comment so must mean I am feeling better (a bit).

I have just caught up with posts since last time so here goes with few comments

The LGFB session was brilliant. Good to talk to other women in same situation and to be bald with no embarassmnet as same as few others. There were 10 of us and 4 beauticians and went through everything from cleanse/tone etc to eyes and lips. The bag of cosmetics given to everyone for free must have been worth about £200 . All full size from different suppliers but good stuff likj Clarins, Clinique, Elizabeth Arden etc and a large bottle of Estee Lauder perfume. We had good fun and I am definitely making use of the goods and the advice given. Everyone now keeps telling me how well I look. The sessions are well recomended.

I agree with whoever said that just the thought of next chemo session makes you feel sick, I have mine on Thursday and am dreading it but will be half way so have to hang on to that thought. I have had a bad cold this weekend, so hope blood count is OK and there is no delay which I think would be worse than going through it.

I have shaved my hair and have lovely wig to wear out but still have eyebrows and eyelashes alhough the brows are thinning. Someone at the LGFB session said eyelashes seem to go at about cycle 5 of chemo. Suppose it depends on individuals.

Finally - Lulu I love my cat and she is definitely company whilst I have been off sick. I would recomend you get one.

I am trying to keep busy and do not like daytime TV. Since I have been off work and lucky enough to be on full pay I have saved the money it would cost me to travel so I used this to buy a machine to record all my old records (LPs and 45s) onto CD. Always wanted to do this but never had tinme so now I am enjoying listening again and recording them for future at same time.

Best wiahes for all having treatment this week .

glad you enjoyed the LGFB workshop. It sounds really good! I can’t wait to go to mine. Have already ordered their DVD and watched it several times. Thanks to chemo brain every time it’s as if I’m watching it for the first time as I seem to have forgotten half of the make up advice…

There seems to be a pattern here with ladies really making an effort to look their best while undergoing chemo. Funnily enough, Andi, a friend of mine when she saw me with the new funky wig (which I LUV) told me I looked ten years younger. Nice in a way but what is that saying about my OWN hair? :frowning:

Off to Majorca for a short break tomorrow. I really can’t wait to get a bit of sunshine. Mind you: not sure how wise it is to travel by plane while undergoing chemo but what the hell. The deed is done and I’m off with my OH. Fingers firmly crossed.

Have you spotted the programme called Denise and Fearne’s charity trek for breast cancer at 9 o’ clock on ITV2 tonight? It might be interesting to watch.

Take care ladies. Week 5 seems to be the baddie for eyebrows and eyelashes… let’s see what happens.

Lulu XXX

OH NO! So my theory about holding onto your eyebrows and lashes if you still have them by cycle 4 is just a viscious rumour! I was feeling really smug as mine are still very much intact and cycle 4 is on Thursday. I be checking them every day for another month now!

My LGFB session is tomorrow. Can’t wait!

Hi all
The LGFB was awesome! I am using my goodies and have also been told how well I look!
had FEC 3 on Monday and feel fine! It the steroids the hospital pump in pre treatment that keep me awake on the night of chemo. Apart from that I sleep ok.
My cats have been very loving and I rarely have a free lap when I am sitting down. This makes my knitting a bit difficult lol. I have moved on from chemon hats( i have loads now) to a very nice jacket. Its on huge needles so should be finished in time for my hols in norfolk next wednesday.
Going away is brill if you are able to do it. hope Lulu has a fantastic time and has remembered her sunblock.
x sarah

Hi all, had my first FEC yesterday, felt a bit sickly, angry, and had a few tears i just keep popping the antisickness pills and fingers crossed i feel ok today, still peeing a funny colour but managing to drink plenty and eating little and often, hope everyone is ok xxx

Hi Booncy
I felt tearful when I had my first FEC think mainly because we don’t know what to expect. I was exactly the same took all medication as the days progress you will feel better. I started a daily journal how I feel physically and emotionally each day, plan on following through same routine next time. Keep thinking positive the days I am under the weather brighten myself up in the knowledge the chemo is doing it’s job.
Have my 2nd FEC next Monday can’t say i am looking forward to it but at least it’s another one down.
Love maggie
P.S think we BC girls I’m my area being left out as no LGFG sessions in our part of the country well none I have heard of (north Lancashire south Cumbria)

Hi Maggienic

If you look on the LGFB.co.uk it gives the location of the sessions in your region. Not sure where you are but there are sessions in Carlisle, Manchester, Blackpool and Liverpool. I would try and book one and make a day out of it. It isn’t often one gets something for nothing!!!

Good luck
