I have bone and lung mets and have decided as a first route to go the chemo which I think after listening to the bone mets ladies is the best plan. Anyone got tip or advice on this chemo? The bad and the good . I did FEC when I had dx for primary in 05 and coped ok with that . Going to try and work if poss managed before or am I expecting too much ?
Hi Sue, being honest? It’s no picnic - I too had FEC for primary in 2009 which was fine, did 4 cycles of tax in December for lung secondaries and it was really hardgoing. BUT ultimately do-able. See if they can give you GCSFinjections to take home between cycles. I found that helped. I still worked when I could which was most of the time, bar the odd couple of days here and there. And it’s a good drug by all accounts (although didn’t work for me sadly). Good luck!
Hi, I had 6 x taxotere for recurrence in pectoral muscle nodes after previous 6x fec for primary. Personally I mananged the tax better, less nausea, although very tired, with bad backache. However, i worked through it (2 ouf 3 weeks each time) and yes, it was do-able although as always i was glad when the 6 cycles were over. That was 4 years ago and i am still here!
I would say go for it. All the best,
Love, Mo xx
I would say go for it. All the best. you should enjoy yourself. And this is the life.
Thank you ladies. I am feeling positive and hopefully this one will be do -able like fec … moser good to know you manged to work… funny thing work… normally do not want to go to work lol…but like before when i had fec on primary I NEEDED to go to work, it was a place i could still feel normal , i feel like that now . just need to feel normal ,like I am in charge of this cancer and not the cancer in charge of me !! So bring it on … What are GCSF injections ??
Hi
I can’t comment on use of Taxotere for secondaries but I did have FEC x 3 and Tax x 3 for primary breast cancer and noticed very little difference as regards side-effects and, if anything, tolerated Tax slightly better. Only real difference was that tax made my nails manky and finished off my eyebrows and eyelashes - all of which recovered in due course.
GCSF injections were given routinely by the hospital where I was treated (as an injection administered by the district nurse at my home the day after each chemo dose). Also called Pegfilgrastim it is intended to stimulate white blood cell production so that one’s immune system is not too severely suppressed by the chemo and to try to ensure that white blood cell count recovers sufficiently so that chemo doses can be given as per plan without delays. Worked for me.
Best of luck.
