Still aching 5 months after surgery

Hi

I had a breast reduction mammoplasty in April. Since then I have had varying degrees of pain in my muscles all down my neck to my shoulder. It is worse when I am using that arm- especially when I drive. I do my excerises as I had a full clearance too. People tell me it takes a long time for the body to recover from operations and I suppose chemo doesn’t help the healing process, but I am starting to get a bit down about it continuing and wondering if I am stuck with it. It is def putting my off having the other breast operated on to even things up . I don’t want pain on that side too. I know other may not have had the same op as me but is anyone else still feeling discomfort a long time after the op?. My breast has a few tender spots too. Debx

Sorry Deb you are probably not going to want to hear this but I am still in discomfort coming up to 2 years since the first op… That’s why I don’t wear prosphetics… (it is just too painful when I try and wear a bra) Hopefully some of the others will be able to give you some more encouagement though… {{{hugs}}}

Hi Deb,

I had a WLE and SNB in May, so no where near as much surgery and was still in pain and had chording until about three weeks ago. Was really uncomfortable when did anything that stretched the arm and wearing a bra hurt. Went back to my surgeon a couple of months ago to get him to check as I was worried and he said all ok just keep doing exercises. I got quite fed up as didn’t really notice any improvement at all. Everyday when I lifted my arm to put on deoderant or when I would go out our garage door (pushed the door up) it would hurt and then about three weeks ago got up and nothing. No pain, no chording. Can wear bra now too, although have to say always v pleased to take off at end of the day. Couldn’t quite believe it and kept doing exercises for about a week but has never come back.

I know it’s not the same but hope this helps.

Hi Theresa and Jo

Thanks for the responses. I.think I might ask for a physio referral to see if they can suggest any exercises I can do specifically for the shoulder and neck. Glad yours has got better Jo. Sorry yours is still a problem Theresa, it must just be a constant reminder. Take care debx
