Hi
I was diagnosed with IDC grade 3 in Sept 10. I had a lumpectomy and had 4 lymph nodes removed. They removed all of the lump with clear margains and my lymph nodes were clear. I started chemo on 1st Nov, but i still feel like there is some sort of lump in my breast, could it be scar tissue, has anyone else had the same.
Hi dbeh,
I had a lumpectomy on the 8th Oct, rads to follow in two weeks, I didn’t need chemotherapy as margins were clear , but I can also still feel a lump, I just assumed it would settle down in time, it is worrying though,

Hi,
I had my lump removed in May and I remember having concerns about a month later about a lump. My surgeon said it was my body starting to fill in the crater where the tumour had been.
I know I felt much better for getting it checked though.
Hope it works out.

Hi Debh,
it is in all probability scar tissue, but do get it checekd when you go for your chemo. I had lumpectomy 3 years ago and still have a big lump by my scar - they say it is scar tissue and I hope they are right. I thought it would reduce over time but apparently not.
cheers
Caroline
Hi
I also had a lumpectomy on Sept 10 and still have a lump. I had it checked by my BCN and was advised it will take a while for the body to sort out after the operation. It was normal.
Give your BCN a call on Monday and see if you can go in for some reassurance.
Janvis xx
Thanks for your comments, i feel more reassured now, but will speak to the BCN xx
DBEH I also had lumpectomy in March and i could still feel a tender lumpiness around original site and someone already said my surgeon said the crater area fills in with fatty and scar tissue and also all the nerve endings and skin is still healing and repairing itself so it can still feel like this for sometime xx Julie
I had a lumpectomy in Feb with clear margins and still have a lump near the scar. I mentioned it back in the summer to the onc, and I had an ultrasound ‘to put my mind at rest’, and it was thought to be scar tissue. I have my yearly mammogram soon, so I hope the person doing the ultra sound was right. It is a worry though.
Bumped up for anyone else to comment hopefully with good news…
I’ve had my ‘scar tissue’ lump near my lumpectomy scar ultrasounded and biopsied this week, as although the surgeon and radiographer feel that it is just scar tissue, there have been ‘changes’ since the ultrasound in July and the lump feels bigger. Don’t get the results until middle of next week, so I am trying to cope with feeling worried sick. It’s all happening the same time as last year, and I’m beginning to really hate Christmas.
Hi Steph,
Really hope you get some positive news next week, it really is a worry, my lump is still there, but the lump I originally went with was ‘normal’, with the BC behind it, so not really sure what to feel for now ![]()
I’ll be thinking of you, at this very worrying time, please keep in touch, let us know how you get on x
Thanks, ccl X
Steph,
You’ve taken the first step, so whatever the results, you’ll have started on the journey.
I had a mx and LD flap reconstruction in Nov 2009, found a lump in June 2010, went to doctor (who said it was nothing), but it got bigger and by October I was so worried that I found the surgeon’s email address and sent an email direct to him. He got me into the clinic.
Anyway, it was cancer - and now I have two lumps (stage 2) in the reconstructed breast. As it was a fast growing (grade 3), I was alarmed when a lump was found in the liver, but it was benign.
Started chemo 10 days ago and have a long haul ahead, including losing the new breast and the back muscle.
BUT - it is all treatable - and it wouldn’t have been if I’d delayed even more. The worry is the worst bit; and like you, I was hoping for a better Christmas this year.
You just need to get all the tests you can to put your mind at rest, but it sounds as if you’ve got onto it quickly. I hope that you’ll get positive news and are able to have a happy Christmas.
Please let us know how you get on.
I’m looking forward to Christmas 2011!
Annie
Soooo relieved! Lump found to be scar tissue that had changed and appeared like cancer on ultrasound after radiotherapy. Surgeon was very sympathetic and offered a future op to have lump removed anyway for my peace of mind. I’ll see how I feel in the next 6 months and then I go for my next check up. Christmas is on!
Oh steph,
That’s such a relief, hope you have a fab Christmas! X
