still got sore and tender scalp

hello all,

A minor problem really in the big scheme of things but Ive had a very sore and tender scalp for the past 3 months really. Not sure whether it is some kind of side-effect. It feels like it did just before my hair fell out during chemo! I am now 8 months post chemo, 6 months post rads, and am currently on Tamoxifen and Herceptin. I would say my hair is growing very slowly too. Anybody else had anything similar and/or have any solutions to this?

Thanks

Hi, I have just finished Herceptin 3 weeks ago and I found that one of the side effects was for it to make any regrowth of hair really slow. I remember posting about this last summer and some of the other ladies saying it was the same with them.

When I was completely bald I used to moisturise my head every day with Body Shop Vitamin E face mist, which is very light and smells of rose water. I have all my hair back now, but in the last few weeks I’ve been finding my scalp a bit sensitive and flaky, so I’m using Wella System Professional Sensitive Lotion after washing. This was something I had bought from my hairdresser well before I was diagnosed with BC and I found it in amongst some hair products I packed away when I was about to go bald. My hair is completely silver and I’m not too worried about it, but I think if I am inclined to want to have a colour I will wait a bit longer until the hair is stronger and the scalp healthy.

Yes, head feels just like you describe. Finished chemo in Dec and radio in Feb. My head was so sore while on Taxotere - I mean really painful. It is better than it was but I still do not dare to think of colouring it - that used to make my head sore anyway - even though my hair is coming back so grey. My hair does seem to be growing very slowly but looks so short, I think from still wearing my wig which tends to flatten what hair there is.
I’m afraid I don’t have any answers and would love to hear if anyone else can offer advice!

I have read ladies on another thread who say brewers yeast tablets are good for hair regrowth.

thanks cherub and sarcath!

Was beginning to think I was the only one with a sore bonce! I have coloured by hair 3 times since September so now I am worried that its that which has made it so sore, however, last time I coloured was about 3 weeks ago and it is still sore. It feels better after I wash it and tonight Ive put no products on it or anything so hopefully it will start to feel better. I cant remember whether it was sore before I coloured - chemo brain!
