Still in shock 2025

I was diagnosed with stage 1 grade 3 Triple-negative breast cancer at the end of Jan this year. I am 59 with a family history of breast cancer. I had my first surgery which was a lumpectomy plus Lymph Node removal which went quite smoothly.
3 weeks later the results and more bad news, they found more cancer in my breast plus in my Lymph Nodes, further surgery through the original scares and a drain this time. I must say the drain has been more painful than the surgery. I get my results on the 15th.
I have some nerve pain plus in the drain area is quite tender, still 2 weeks later. I can’t stand anything on my breast or around my arm and under arm.
I’m dreading the results day.

Hi benzach,

So sorry to hear what you’re going through. It’s such a shock when the histology is not as expected. I had a “1cm” no node tumour which turned into a 4.5cm tumour with 3 nodes when the histology came back, so the lumpectomy turned into a mastectomy. But that was 17 years ago and it all turned out ok.

You are in that awful waiting phase right now. Just try and distract yourself - walks, reading, movies, meeting friends and family etc etc. it’s the only way through it, trying not to agonise over all the “what if,’s”. When I look back over my life and think of all the energy I’ve expended agonising over things that never actually happened in the end, it seems such a waste.

I hope all the pain in the breast settles soon and you get better news when you get back to the hospital. Don’t forget there is lots of support available here. The nurses are always available to call, or the “someone like me” service

Love and hugs,

Eilyxxxx
