Stories of Hope and Inspiration..Women with Secondaries.

Hi all, hope you too have blue skies and sunshine today!
I’m re-posting this link, I’ve posted it many times in the past but Breast Cancer Network Australia has just revamped it’s site and this is the new link. Stories of Australian women living well with secondaries.

Hi Belinda

I love it when you put on these posts and look forward to checking out the new link. It always give me such a boost - thank you.

Thank you Belinda. There are some great stories there and quite few tips on how to make the most of bad situations.

I did read it when you last posted it, as you say its been updated. What a lovely group of ladies.

I liked the idea of a worry box, open it for 5-10 minutes a day then shut it. I am going to try that.

Thanks Belinda

That site that you linked to definately lifted my spirits!
At the moment it is the positive experiences of others that are keeping me so strong mentally.

Is there a site specifically for secondaries anywhere here?
Perhaps there should be a section on here of inspirational stories.
I have been toying with the idea of writing a blog, perhaps I should turn it into a website with lots of inspirational stories and links to helpful websites?

I think I will begin a blog now at the ‘beginning’ of my secondaries, I sometimes wish I had last time, as I forget so much!
It will also help with the friends and wellwishers who are so genuinely concerned about me, who want to keep up with my treatment, but don’t like to keep asking!

Take care and enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Nicky

Hi everyone. There are some pdfs and I think (somewhere here) there are some short films on living with secondaries. I’ve never found them quite such inspirational reading as the Aussie pdf, the BCC ones are quite ‘medicalised.’ (But if there are others BCC I would love to read them.)
I recently discovered Bad Fairy’s blog…(Hello Bad Fairy!)…she has posted the site address on this thread, breastcancercare.org.uk/forum/blogs-and-blogging-t25390s12.html
If you do start a blog Nicky I would love to read it.
Have a lovely sunny Sunday all…xx

Hi everyone

We have a DVD called “Take each day: Living with secondary breast cancer”, which I think is what you might be referring to, belinda?

“This 30-minute film charts the lives of four women living with secondary breast cancer. You can order the free DVD online now. Through a series of intimate interviews this documentary-style film shows how the women cope with the day-to-day reality of living with the condition and its impact on family and friends.”

Here’s the link to where you can order a copy of the DVD: breastcancercare.org.uk/healthcare-professionals/publications/secondary-breast-cancer/*/changeTemplate/PublicationDisplay/publicationId/5/

Nicky - I too would love to see your blog, if you decide to start one. If you post the link over on the blogging thread (which belinda linked to) I’m sure lots of people would be interested.

Leah

Belinda - Thanks for posting this again. I’ve added it to my favourites this time!

Nicky - a blog/website sounds a great idea and I’m sure it would be read by loads of people and contributed to by us secondaries girlies. Hope you’re feeling a bit better this week, especially after the nice weather over the last couple of days or so. Has your treatment been settled on yet???

Hi Liz

I’m feeling quite good now thanks, feeling really positive! I was on a week-long residential course with my school last week (apart from Wednesday pm when I had an oncology appointment)and it really distracted me.

I am off on half term next week, so may start my blog then, my husband is a web developer, so will hopefully set it up for me. I will definately include a section for inspirational stories, because i think that they help me to stay positive. So if anyone wants to add to it, when I finally get round to it, then please do!

I have my planning session at Clatterbridge which is my oncology unit Tomorrow, so will know what treatment to expect. I don’t think that I am having bisphoshonates, as apparently my cancer is causing my bones to grow and expand rather than weaken! (I think I was told that the cells that break down old bone are not breaking down effectively, however new bone is still developing, causing too much bone density - apparently the opposite from what is ‘typical’, someone more medically minded may be able to help me out and explain better!)
The Aromasin has been changed to Letrozole, because that obviously wasn’t working! Fingers crossed that this one does!

Take care

Nicky xx

Hi Nicky and all, most of us seem to have osteolytic mets, the hole causing ones, the more uncommon type you have are osteoblastic mets. I sent you a private message with a inspirational, hopeful link.
Seven years on I still need to hear hopeful stories!

Hi Belinda

Thanks for posting this link, it is very inspiring to read and certainly boosts our spirits when living living with secondaries. I have saved in my favourites too.

Thanks again, Max
