Stressing if tumour has shrunk

Hi had three cycles of ec now and ct last week to see how the tumor is responding to chemo. I go to see my oncologist on Thursday to find out. I’m really stressed about it at the moment. Just had a lovely holiday abroad and forgot about cancer and the treatment but back to reality now.

I want to say “don’t worry” but it sounds trite - you cannot guess you will just have to wait and see. Even if it has not shrunk if it has not grown then that shows the chemo is arresting it.

My cancer was tiny 3mm or as big as a peppercorn - but it is/was HER2 so I have to have chemo. I had the surgery first because mine was small. If I have it right they give the chemo first if your cancer is larger in the hope that it shrinks and you can have less invasive surgery.

Thanks for your reply blueash. Yes having chemo first because at the moment my tumour is inoperable because of size and location. Oncologist is hoping the chemo shrinks the tumor but have been told an operation could still be out of the question. I think the oncologist is hoping it shrinks. Then I can have radiotherapy, followed with hormone treatment. Mine is ER+ HER - I’m hoping this keeps at bay. It’s my second time with this type of breast cancer. Was first diagnosed in 2009 with grade one stage one. The size of a piece of sweetcorn. I had a lumpectomy and radiotherapy. Followed with 5 years on tamoxifen, which I only came off March last year. On a plus side. Went to see the consultant 3 weeks ago, who examined me and said he couldn’t feel the lump and thought the chemo was doing its job. I hope the scan tells the same story.
