'String' coming out from my underarm wound

Hi girls

I had WLE and axillary node sampling on 7th May, and wounds have healed well. It was grade 3 and 5 out of 7 nodes infected. I have had one FEC on 3rd June.

This morning I have noticed what looks like a piece of string stickng out from one end of the underarm scar/wound - should I be worried/do anything? I obviously don’t want to get it infected.

Thanks for any advice

Hi Kinden

It is very likely the end of the stitches. They usually use dissolvable stitches which melt away with body heat. Sometimes the end just sticks out a bit too far to get melted. I had exactly the same thing with mine. Best to see a nurse (GP practice nurse would be fine) who can snip the end for you. Until then, nothing to get worried about. Keep it clean and dry and should be fine.

I had exactly the same after an operation a few years back. I was over the christmas holidays for me so I just stuck a clean dressing over it until the surgery opened and then had it snipped off.

Thanks girls, I’ll see the nurse tomorrow morning.
Hope you’re all having a great father’s day.
