Hi Everybody, hope somebody out there can help.
I had my zometa infusion yesterday. I am on three weekly infusions because it used to fit into my chemo cycle and when I finished chemo I told them that I felt more comfortable on three weekly.
Normally I have no problems. But yesterday evening I felt really unwell, tired and achy and today I have woken up with horrible pain at the top of my femur (where I know my mets are most active).
Now, the thing is that I was seen in two hospitals yesterday (at the Marsden for my weekly visit to check I am doing OK on the drug trial I am on and at the Royal Surrey to see my surgeon who does a six monthly monitoring check of his handiwork). I know I didn’t have this excutiating pain then and it seems strange that it has come on all of a sudden.
The only thing I can think of is that I had my zometa by infusion on an empty stomach. I have to fast overnight before my weekly hospital visit and cannot eat anything until after all my bloods have come back. I wonder whether that may have something to do with it. I did read somewhere that people were encouraged to drink lots of water when having their bisphosphonates and I guess I was a bit dehydrated yesterday. I was also short of blood - what with them having taken at least an armful (12 vials in all) to check all the things they usually check to make sure this phase one drug isn’t harming me.
Anybody experienced any flare of bone pain with zometa? I know lots of people do after the first infustion, but this was, I think, my eighteenth!
HELP!
Deirdre
