Bless you, Pat - will be thinking of you that day and sending big sisterly healing vibes to you from Scotland. Best wishes xxx
That’s fantastic news
Let us know how you get on and if you haven’t got one yet ask the nurses to put you in touch with someone who supplies the heart cushions for after the op. Really help. I tried lots of places online and ended up making them myself and took some into hosp afterwards. I was bilateral so without them I wouldn’t known what to do with myself
Good luck for the 18th
Lynn xx
How are you, Pat? Hope recovering well. xx
@roxie1 Hi there. Not too bad now. Unfortunately I developed an infection in the drain site so had 24 hours in hospital on IV antibiotics but I’m home now on oral and feel fine in myself. The drain was removed yesterday and it all feels ok except there still fluid leaking from the drain site which is irritating more than anything.
How are you?
Hi Pat,
Such a shame re the infection, really sorry to hear that. I hope the recovery goes more smoothly from here onwards. Hope antibiotics work quickly.
Sorry delayed reply - been a bit hectic and a lot to think about. I am recovering well from surgery but unfortunately my sentinel node tested positive so I am schedule for axillary clearance on Dec 9th. Can’t do radiotherapy on lymph node area instead of surgery as there is an overlap with radiotherapy zone from 30 years ago for thyroid cancer treatment. No idea if anyone else has ever been in this position. Trying tp figure out how to do a new post to find out as I think I am also now heading down the chemo route, which was not on the cards until the positive lymph node was detected. Hey-ho - we crack on!
Best wishes,
Roxie
@roxie1 I’m pleased to hear you are recovering well fromyour surgery but sorry to hear that you have to have further treatment . I had an axillary clearance and had a drain in, which was where the infection was. I think that putting a drain in or not is personal to the individual surgeon so its hard to say if youll have one or not. I feel fine now and just have a couple of doses of oral antibiotics left to take.
Gosh you have been through the mill with thyroid cancer as well. That really doesnt seem fair! Tricky to know what category to ask for others with the same experience, but I bet there will be someone!! Maybe post on the ask the nurses category and at the very least they could point to the right place. If you give a clear title to your thread someone else my see it when scrolling past.
I had chemotherapy before my surgery. Not sure if youre aware but each month theres a special thread for people starting chemo that month - eg chemo starters December 2024, or something like that. This is great as everyone is at the same stage and can compare side effects
I hope all goes well on the 9th and that you’ll be up to joining in the Christmas festivities!!
@roxie1 I just had a look through the categories and there’s one called Connecting with people like me - maybe you’ll find someone with your past medical history in there!
Pat - so kind of you to take time to suggest ways forward. I’m very grateful indeed for your support and advice.
Wishing you all the best for your continued recovery.
Roxie
