I saw my consultant last night and a date has finally been confirmed for my surgery…Friday 2nd March.
It all seems very real now although I do feel guilty as this is 3 days before my husbands 30th birthday. Some birthday for him, visiting his wife in hospital.
I am due to have a mastectomy on my right breast and an immediate reconstruction using tissue from my tummy. I am ok with the procedure apart from the length of the operation itself…that really scares me for some reason.
Are there any others out there due to undergo surgery in early March? Would love you to get in contact and hopefully stay in touch.
I am having mx and full node clearance (anc?) on 1st march with recon at a later date, just had my last chemo last thursday before the op. There’s a few people who seem to be having op at the beginning of March, will will have to start a having surgery in March thread to keep each other going. I am not looking forward to the anaethetic (spell?) as I’ve never really had surgery before and don’t know how I will react. Have tried to start doing some of the exercises after reading that other people seem to recover better if they do the exercises before the op, will have to wait and see if it makes much difference.
I am also having mx and tummy recon but mine is on 16th Feb - I thought it would be mid to late Jan. I am also very concerned about the length of the op but like everyone keeps telling me we won’t know how long we are under for. It bothers me that I will feel really sick afterwards because of the long op, does that worry you?
Good luck with your op on the 16th Feb, are you ready for it? I think I will be a bundle of nerves leading up to mine. I have already started dreaming about the operation, mad isn’t it. I am worried that I will feel sick afterwards but hopefully it won’t happen.
I will be thinking of you, and please let me know how you are doing.
Hi Weme
I shall be thinking of you on the 1st March, let me know how it goes. We will have to start that thread, hopefully calm each others nerves and would be good to keep in touch with those having surgery at the same time. I am also having node clearance, forgot to mention in original thread. What exercises are you doing? I have heard that recovery is better but I wouldn’t have a clue where to start.
When I went to see my surgeon my bcn gave me a leaflet with exercises to do after the op. I’ve read on here that it helps to start before op to build up strength. BCC do a free DVD with them on I think. It doesn’t say you have to start them before op though, I thought I would give it a go as I had the info.
Hi Natalie
Like you and Weme i’m having mx (left side) and node clearance next week, in fact weme and i are having our ops on the same day in the same hospital, and we are hoping we will be on the same ward to give each other mutual support! I am a bit nervous but just trying to get on with it really!
Hi weme see you thursday!
X
Hi there,
My surgery is on monday 27th but thats near enough isnt it ? will post after when im up to it and let you know how things are and im NOT looking forward to the anasthetic … god that feeling as your drifting off ugh … some people would pay to have that sensation … not me , im having lumpectomy and poss lymph removal as not confirmed yet … all due for ops take care and lets update , good luck & love to all x
I have not been too well this week, managed to get myself a viral infection but am feeling much better and got some antibiotics. Will have my pre-op assessment this week before Friday and I’m just worried that they will now postpone my operation because of this but I can only wait and see what happens.
Please let me know how it goes and I’ll be thinking of you all.
I’ve just been given the 22nd march for my mastectomy op to my right breast.
I don’t know as yet how the reconstruction is to go-still to discuss with doc but not having the Tram flap as had 2 previous ops to my tum.
I’m in limbo land right now!
Got appt with doc at hospital on friday so looking forward to having a plan.
I had a sentinel node biopsy last tuesday and it’s all clear so that’s good. I’ve had a taste of surgery again for now so it’s hopefully calmed me a bit in prep for the 22nd.
Taking it in my stride right now thankfully.
