Surgery for fat necrosis

Hi I had a mastectomy and immediate DIEP reconstruction a year past in April. I found a lump some weeks ago and found it was cancer again. I’m having bone n CT scans to check I’m clear elsewhere. I have quite bad fat fat necrosis in the reconstructed breast and have been given the option to have the whole breast removed while the new lump is being removed. I do find the lumps and lumpy areas on the breast uncomfortable. I wondered if anyone has had their reconstruction removed and how it felt after the operation?

Whilst you wait for the other users to reply with their experiences do give the BCC helpline a call on 0808 800 6000.  Here you can talk things through and share any concerns you may have with a member of staff who will offer you a listening ear as well as emotional support and practical information.  Lines are open weekdays 9 to 5pm and Saturday 10 to 2pm.

Best wishes Sam, Facilitator
