So today is the great unveiling and dressings removed… but scared but just thinking of cleaning that armpit. How are you getting on mdlucc? And cdc hope 2nd op went well xx
Hope unveiling goes well Kip. So glad you’re able to relax now you don’t have to see that b***dy consultant Bridget. Thanks for the good wishes everyone. Pleased to say my margin shave has gone well. My surgeon can’t guarantee I’ll get clear margins but she’s done her absolute best and taken out the maximum amount of tissue she could so fingers crossed. She has repeatedly warned me I may still need a mastectomy on the right but I’m actually feeling a lot calmer about having the procedure if needs must. I’ve got a few months of chemo to get through so I’ll have more time to get my head around the idea and it doesn’t seem quite so scary after reading the posts from all you lovely ladies. How did your meeting with the BCN go Jazza? Hope they can speed things up. Hope your rexcision goes well next week Feenix. Mine was far less complicated than my previous surgery and I woke up feeling fine and wanting to go home. Unlike a fortnight ago when I was so ill I couldn’t work out why others were able to leave hospital after just a few hours. I now know I’m allergic to all sorts of things like surgical glue, adhesive on many dressings, pre surgery wash, iodine, the cuff of the BP monitor!!! I had a laugh with my surgeon this morning as she described how she had to do a complete bed wash in the theatre and was then given a bag of tiny alcohol wipes by ‘infection control’ staff to prep me. She said she had to use around 400 of them before she could start my surgery!!! She has the patience of a saint!!!
Mcnulcc Hope you are continuing to recover well. Still producing blue number 2s??? Mine went through a range of colours before finally ending up bright green then stopping after about a week thank goodness!
Well finally unveiled and healing nicely, got some nice bruising but looks fine. Also finally found out her2 results were negative… but have to wait for next weeks complete treatment plan. Ctc glad you are doing well after your op… another step forward. Have a good weekend everyone… I’m looking forward to long soak in the bath and so is my armpit.
So sorry cdc. Take those pain killers and try to get some sleep. Sending gentle hugs Kxx
Hello, CDC sorry to hear you have had a down time, we’ve all been there and I am sure we will again. Hopefully being in your own bed and home will help and take lots of painkillers. Battery powered dressings? Wow never knew such things existed. The results/histology reports that you ladies have mentioned sound so complicated, I’m dreading my appointment on Friday, and I totally agree, its not what treatment you are getting that freaks you out, its not knowing what it may be. I just want to be able to plan a bit.
On the plus side, I had the best bath ever last night, soaked that smelly armpit for ages… heavenly… simple pleasures! Just been out to drive around the block and found that fine too. Surprised to find out that my MX scar was glued and not stitched, just two stiches (one each end)… how clever, now have bits of glue to fall off too but a small price to pay.
Big hugs to you all, take time and care with healing…love Kip. xx
Three days post surgery and doing fine. Finding very innovative ways to shower without getting right side wet. Black bin bag over smurf blue boob absolutely this seasons fashion. However without wishing to sound crude I have yet to have a number 2 and am beginning to have a bit of stomach ache. Have been drinking loads of water and taken some lactulose but no joy as yet. Does anyone have any suggestions as to anything else I can try sorry to be so open about the bodily functions.
Hi mcnulcc. Don’t know what pain killers you are taking but the can cause constipation. I didn’t go for several days and in the end asked for a prescription, which has helped. I did try senacot but it didn’t help. BTW, don’t forget to get the form for free prescriptions. Yet another perk, like blue boob and wee!! Xx
Hi ktk Thanks for advice painkillers are a mix of codeine morphine and paracetamol. I suspect it is as a result of the tablets. Didn’t know about the prescription form thank you for the heads us. Hope your enjoying the good weather.
Bridget M. Lovely husband has just returned from shops with prune juice!! . Big bag of oranges and flowers he’s a star x
Re free prescriptions, just ask your GP surgery for the form. You need to fill it in then give it back to them to endorse and send off. I got my card back within a week and it lasts for 5 years!! X
Ladies They should have given you the free prescription form at the hospital, my Oncologist told my BCN off for not having given me one when she checked that I had it! Keep all reciepts for anything you may have had on prescription since your diagnosis as the pharmacy will refund you, its all meds too not just those for BC.
Codeine will cause constipation but the prune juice will work wonders ladies! ?? Xx
Hi, hope the prune juice does the trick! Nothing worse than constipation to add to blue boobs, painkillers, blue wee and dressings is there… How dignified this Bc is!!! I think I over did it yesterday, my under arm is bit swollen, BCN did think it may have some fluid in it but didn’t seem worried. Anyone else got that? Xxx
ktk… how are you getting on? I’ve been trying to catch up with thread; If I recollect right you are waiting for your onc appt … everything crossed for you. Hope your recovery is going well.
mcnulcc… sounds as tho you’re doing ok post op… I didn’t go for the black bin bag look in shower just held a folded towel over. Hope the prune juice and fruit worked. I do drink prune juice daily tho I did need senokot after a few days post op to clear out the dye.
Bridget… How are you doing ? how’s your wound since having fluid removed… glad that bolshy doc nowhere in sight. Not sure if you’ve had post surgery results yet. Love your dog Dazee.
Kip … just noticed post about a knitted knocker. They are raved about. Although I’ve not had a mx, my central WLE has left a noticeable defect which will only get more pronounced after next Thursday + I might end up with mx. I have the pattern so I’m going to have a go knitting my own… goodness knows what it’ll look like ?
Sending positive vibes to all xx
Morning ladies hope you are all okay and not in too much pain today.Kip hope your feeling better how is the swelling today.? So happy to say prunes etc have worked. Praise be feeling so much more comfortable now . As its such a lovely day husband and I are going to have a little walk to the end of the road and back. Think it’s about as much as I will be able to manage but it’s a start. Appointment letter for results arrived late yesterday 12th June so that is now my next milestone target. Have any of you made contact with any local support groups as yet. My friend has passed on details of a group who meet a few miles away from where I live in Liverpool and I am wondering if I should get in touch. Hope sun is shining on you today sending all of you hugs and best wishes xx
Hello everyone, thanks for all he advice regarding my lump, it’s still there sort of were the end of my scar is and the snb site and quite hard. I think it feels bigger to me than perhaps it is but I will check with nurse on Thursday when I get my results. I also have “,group physio” ,on Wednesdsy, anyone had that? Feenix the knitted Knocker is fab, my mum is busy knitting me spares, you can also get a swimming one which is stuffed with a cut up Shower scrunchy (sort you get with a shower gel gift set)… Might get one to try if I ever get back to swimming.
I’m starting back at work tomorrow, feels good and also scary but as I work from home and don’t need to drive and feel pretty good at moment I thought I would, who knows what results will bring and how long feeling good lasts. I think it was CDC who posted that their hospital appointments are very disjointed, my hospital too, the area is small and never enough rooms, the mammogram/ultrasound area is down another corridor. When you realise just how many people are affected by this you realise how badly the NHS needs more money and better facilities.
It’s so hot here today so going to sit in the shade and rest up ready for work tomorrow. Take care ladies, Kip X
