SURGERY ON THURSDAY. ANY ADVICE?

Hello all,

I have finished my 8 x FEC 75 on 5th August, went on holiday and now I am going for surgery on 5th September for Wide Local Excision & Axillary clearance . I know I will have to be in hospital for about 5 days. But how does it feel right after the surgery? Do I get really strapped up without being able to move? Just want a bit of advice as I am really nervous at the moment.

Thanks

I am due my op on Tuesday i have heard it not as bad as it sounds i was told of my bc nurse i should be home by Thursday if my drain is out but i can come home with drain like you i am having wle and nodes just been dc with breast cancer a week ago after lots of test last year came back neg.
Thinking of you Poppet

I had WLE and node sampling so basically the same as you are having jsut not all nodes taken.

I had my surgery at 10am and was up and walking about by late afternoon. I also got my drain out the day after surgery and was allowed home. The arm was achey and movement was limited for a while - I found I couldn’t life my arm high enuff to wash my hair for about the 1st week. I was back to work 2 weeks after my surgery - but I did not have chemo prior to surgery.
Good luck

Hi Stylish (love the name!!)

I had WLE and node sampling on 14th August same as Lilacblushes. I was dreading it but as it turned out was not frightening at all. I had the op about 9am and was home having dinner at 6pm!! Everyone is different, but I didn’t have any drains or dressings. Main part of incision had a couple of stitches but the rest was all glue. Unfortunately, I have to go back this thursday for better margins, but I am not anything like as in fear as I was the first time.

Wishing you all the best for thursday, I’m sure you will be fine.

Hi Stylish

I have copied a link for you here, it will take you to a publication by BCC called ‘Your operation and recovery’ which contains some information about what you may experience following surgery:

breastcancercare.org.uk/content.php?page_id=714

The webpage and publication also contains other information including the helpline which you may also find helpful at some point.

Best wishes
Lucy
