Surgery to remaining breast

After a failed tram flap I had an expander implant fitted  2 years ago  which 6 months later was changed for a permanent implant. I have had 3 sessions of fat injections and although firm the breast feels soft to touch and is warm. Initially it was always felt cold. My consultant has been marvelous but at my post op check up last week when I asked about surgery to lift the other breast to match he said he wouldn’t touch it as it was a good shape didn’t droop much and moved naturally.  The BCC booklet says this is usually offered and I wondered if anyone else had such an operation. He also wants to tattoo a nipple. Am I greedy wanting the real maccoy? It’s not much comfort to me it moving naturally when the other is rigid.

Hi rebeldog

I’m sorry you haven’t had any replies to your post yet.  Hopefully someone might see it now and come along with some comments.

It sounds as though you already have our publication but I’ve attached a link to our Information pages which might also be helpful:

Hi I had a mastectomy on Monday…I have remained calm throughout the process and still am.
In my research I was lucky enough that a woman showed me her reconstructed breast with a tatoed nippe…
It looked fab…
For myself the most important thing is to have a bloob that matches the size and shape of my breast.
Has for a nipple, Well I would like one, but its too difficult and a tattoo will be fine…
I would personally prefer to fight on the size and shape.
I have already said I want an uplift on the other breast.
I am in the early state of my reconstruction but I have learnt that asking questions is good…Also I learnt early on thay your surgeon works for you Not the other way round…
We all have to be realstic also surgeons are not magicons.
If your surgeon is a man, prehaps phone his secretary and get his email and ask hin more questions, I did with mine and will continue too if need be…
Prehaps get someone to take a picture of your boobs
and ask him…
Why is it in the breast cancer brochure it clearly states un up lift is given if required and yet you have refused…
can you please state all your reasons for refusing me this procedure.
You can fill in the rest, prehaps send him a picture and he can see why he reads the letter…
Good Luck Xx

P.S it dosnt mater if your surgeon is a man or a woman emal him…oops half a sleep sorry
Good Luck xx

Sorry to hear you are having a fight getting your other breast uplifted. After my reconstruction with silicone my surgeon suggested an uplift and I said no. I didn’t wsnt him to touch my heslthy boob but now after 6 months I understand what he meant. My boobs don’t match, I can’t get a bra to fit two different sized boobs. So I havechanged my mind and waiting for an appointment. Surgeon says it is not as simple as I thought and my nipple will have to be re-centered but most of the scarring will be under the breast line, the smiley face scar I call it. Need to get it done to feel better about my reflection and you should too. Percevere you deserve this
