Swimming prosthesis

Hi, I also find a Royce bra the most comfortable to wear after several trial and error ones. I also have a swimming prosthesis which I got free (I am in North West area) . I went for a fitting and asked if I could have a swimming one and was told of course and given both types. I thought it would be one or the other, but much to my surprise got both!., Not been swimming with it yet though, but hopefully very soon.

Hello ladies
Milo, I asked about a swim prosthesis but we are not issued with them in England.
Lollypop59 & Quail, thanks for your replies, I have used the Nicola jane site for a few items. Both my swimsuit & bikini came from there and I also bought a sponge swim prosthesis, which is the one which is too light and rides up in my bikini. I see they do a slightly heavier weight one (comfy breast prosthesis) for £24.50 or the bean a boob, so think I will order one of those. I might give them a call to ask which of the 2 is the heavier, will let you know what they say. Southpool, is your bean one the same as the been a boob?
Featherbird, like Southpool & Quail, I also have a Royce bra, which is the best one I have found for me. It was very frustrating sorting out the bra & prosthesis and took lots of attempts! I have ended up with the same bra in different colours (Royce, champagne, I think its called). Like Southpool, I was measured different sizes at different places, but in the end I went for one in the same size that I was pre-surgery. Now I am at a stage where I forget that I am wearing a prosthesis, its so comfy. Mind you, I had to get the first one I was given changed as it was a size too big and was very heavy. I’m a 36D, so not huge busted. I have now got an Amoena Natura 2A which is asymmetrical and perfect! Wish you lots of luck with getting sorted, it really is trial and error but I have to say now that it was worth persevering until I found the best bra for me.

Best wishes

OOOh pam, lucky you getting a swim prosthesis too! Maybe I should ask agian, just in case!

Hi Patchit,

My bean bag is from About the Girl ( I got my bikinis from there) but it is the same as the bean a bag. It is quite light but heavier than a softie. It doesn’t ride up in my tankini or bandeau bikini but don’t know if that is because I wear them tight. My hollow back prothesis is from Women’s Zone and is ABC, it is heavier than the beanie but lighter than my Amoena Natura.

I have just returned from holiday in Mexico & snorkelled with sea lions in a wetsuit and there was no movement in my beanie when I took the wetsuit off. We were on a boat trip with some Americans who couldn’t believe I had a mx after they’d seen me in my bikini jumping off the boat & swimming. It has confirmed my decision not to have a reconstruction, but it is worth the effort to get the right equipment!!

I also have the Royce champagne in both colours & an adjustable bra which I can wear strapless or halter neck, they are brilliant.

Hi again Patchit I have just read your first post and I am a prothesis size 7 as well. My bikini is a sea folly Goddess and although expensive is absolutely fabulous, makes me feel ‘normal’ and I get no stap marks when sunbathing.

Southpool, thanks for all the info, I shall have to do some investigation! I totally agree with you about getting the right equipment! I am not sure yet whether I will have a recon or not, much depends on how I get on over this summer. Think I had my mx before you, last January 2012. I went to Egypt recently and was also snorkelling and jumping off boats etc, I managed very well with my sponge prosthesis really but in a bikini, its just a bit light.
I will have a look at the website’s you mention above and am very pleased for you that you are getting on so well with everything.
Take care
