swimming

Rosebud454

Hi ladies,
The gym i am joining has a communal changing room with only two private cubicles. As i would be mainly swimming, changing in public is a big issue for me with my ‘one sided’ look! How do i stop my towel from sliding when desperately trying to get my bra back on! Is there any special towel you can buy, or do you just grin and bare it, literally. Any advice please.

Hi rosebud454

How about something like this? Its a poncho type beach towel thingy - but i would imagine it would give you plenty of cover?

Hope you can get what you need!
Good luck!

Hi Rosie

I too have the same problem with the communal changing rooms. My gym is not too busy but it always seems like the private changing areas are always full and I feel more conscious hanging around but I’ve now got it off to a fine art. I use an ordinary towel and dry myself thoroughly in the shower area (which is private). I then don’t have to worry about getting dry in the communal area. I wrap the towel around me and place my bra on top. (I always face the wall). I find that once the bra is on nobody really notices that you only have one boob. I then very discretely place my prosthesis in. I always get my bottom half clothes on first and then if the towel slips your bra is more or less in place and you don’t struggle to try and catch the towel. Sometimes, if its really busy I don’t bother with the prosthesis and just put my fleece on so again you don’t notice. With some practice you will find it easier.

Happy swimming and changing - ps I always go to the gym with my costume on even if I go on the treadmill.

Annimay

I found changing on the beach as bit tricky this summer as I was using a swimming prothesis in my swimsuit and had a normal one in my bra. I used a sarong (also great for covering up wobbly bits) tied under my armpits. I have seen traditional sarongs that are like a huge tube but don’t know where you can buy them in the UK. My sister in law bought some when she worked in sri lanka and knots them in one corner. She used to rush off the resuscitate patients wearing that and nothing else when she was on call in hospital and it didn’t fall down! On the beach I kept the bottom of my swimsuit on, got my bra on and then could worry about pants! The only problem was when I forgot my bra! My daughters seem to be able to put a bra on under a t shirt before they put their arms through the sleeves. Maybe you are more flexible than me?!I agree with Annimay that people won’t be looking at you or noticing your “one sided look”.
Enjoy the gym. My daughter and I are trying to register for the moon walk this morning. I’m hoping it will be a good motivation to step up my exercise.
Take care

Hi Annienay and littlemrs,

Thanks for your comments, you both sound confident contortionists (spelling?)! Its just the self conscious thing isnt it that everyone will be staring. Think i will practice at home first - how sad is that!! Well done littlremrs for registering for moon walk, bet its an amazing experience.
Thanks, Rosie x
