Hello,I have been called for a Swine Flu Vac and when I asked my GP why she said I was high priority due to having had BC and now on Arimidex, has anyone else been offered this due to being on this drug and why.
Thank you

I am on Letrozole but am about to start radiotherapy, which is why it was suggested I have both flu jabs, as it depresses the immune system. Have you recently had rads?

Hi Ann yes I had Rads but that was 17 months ago so I really wonder if I really need the Vac now.
Thanks for your reply
Take care and good luck with the rads.

I would check this with your bcn.
I was told you only need the vaccines if you are on chemo or have had it within the last year.
I am 2 1/2 years in remission with my last treatment (radiotherapy)being in May 2007. I was advised by the my oncology consultant to have the swine flu jab as the radiotherapy damaged a bit of my lower left lung.
Thank you so much for your comments and help
Best Wishes

I finished chemo 9 months ago, rads in Feb and have been on Arimidex for 10months. No-one has suggested that I have the jab - but then again I am not due to see my oncologist until Aug 2010, have no BCN contact and my GP isn’t in the habit of being pro-active.
In fact I saw a locum GP this week re pain in my shoulders: when I told him that I had arthritis but it had been worsened by taking Arimidex for my BC he said chirpily- ‘but you’re over that aren’t you? You didn’t have a mastectomy’ No just SNB, WLE and then full clreance for Grade 3 Stage 3 with lymph node involvement!
Suppose that 's what you call being positive with the patients!
Hi topsymo,it seems like I have a very good GP compaired to your locum !!!
I had the letter direct from the surgery so I think I will go ahead and get the vac done Im sure it wont do any harm.
Take care
Jackie
Hi everybody
I’m looking for god advice for my friend who had a lumpectomy and lymph glands removed this april, she’s on Thyroxine, Naproxin, Oneerazole and letrozol, had 6 chemo sessions with Fec followed by radiotherapy and she’s in a real quandry about having the swine flu jab. Any advice would be great. Thanks in advance

I am about to have radiotherapy and was told that, as it depresses the immmune system, it would be a good idea to have the flu jab and the swine flu jab, which I have done. I am also on Letrizole and Thyroxine.
Best to ask the onc, but if her treatment has finished, I would have thought it would be a good idea.

I am on Arimidex and finished chemo a year ago but have not been offered the swine flu vaccine. Only had general flu vaccine. Saw GP the other day and he made no mention of it.
Hi all I did go and have mine this week with no side effects,I was told I need a second dose in 3 weeks time which I have booked.
I suppose all GP depts and views are different.
Take Care All
