Swollen Lymph Node at tumour site

I’m 5 years out of stage 3 grade 3 er+ cancer which was bilateral. My chances of reoccurrence are high.
I recently found a very large lump right next to the original tumour site. I’ve had an ultrasound and I’ve been told it’s a swollen lymph node.
The only thing that concerns me is the doctor said the bad news was this is a sign that I might have the start of a reoccurrence. I was so happy it wasn’t a cancerous lump I didn’t digest this until later and my husband said it didn’t sound as bad as I think it is. Can anyone give me any helpful information about this? As I’m worried it’s the start of it coming back

Hi PJB43,

Thank you for posting.

It’s understandable you’re worried about finding a new lump near to your original tumour site. It’s difficult to say what this lump might be but it sounds as though the doctor has suggested it could be a recurrence. This is usually confirmed with a biopsy.

If the lump is a recurrence, there are several treatment options your team might suggest, but they may need to do some more tests first. You could call your breast care nurse or treatment team for more information.
