Depends on your oncologist. Some seem to have taken on board the new research showing 1o years is better than 5. Mine was adamant that she follows NICE guidelines - which have not yet been updated to take account of this research. It leaves us in a ridicuous position - if I had been post menpausal after the five years I could have an aromatase inhibitor for the next two to three years. But being peri-menopausal that option isn’t open to me. I have more hormones floating around my system than someone who is menopausal, so you would say I am more at risk, but there is no further treatment available for me. I pointed this anomally out when I had my discharge appointment earlier this year, they agreed it was crazy, but that is what NICE guidelines say. So despite being strongly hormone positive, and research evidence showing I would be better off continuing with threatment, there is none available.
