Tamoxifen and sex (or lack of it ! )

Hi, i have been on Tamoxifen for 4 1/2 years now, i am very dry, sore down below sometimes my skin is so thin it cracks and bleeds , so haven’t been able to have sex for a long time ! I have tried everything but nothing works.I am desperate now and very depressed :frowning:
Does anybody know if it gets better after stopping Tamoxifen and is anybody going through the same thing as me! I feel so alone

Hello there, did you by any chance catch the thread that was running a few weeks ago about tamoxifen, sex, chemo etc…I’m hopeless at searching for threads but it ran and ran and people gave lots and lots of great answers to a question just as the one you posted today - perhaps the BCC team can help you find it…you are SO not alone - just jump on the thread and be amazed!
Also I bet someone can help with the does it get better question - I am in early days of Tamox so no help there I’m afraid,
bw Nicola

Thanks,Nicola no i didn’t see the thread, have been trying to avoid going on internet looking up breast cancer for a long time. People tell me to move on ! Easier said than done when your body reminds you everyday that you have had breast cancer.
At one stage all i could talk to anyone was about breast cancer, had to stop as people don’t understand. Even my husband said people had had enough !

Started doing competitions on line ,help’s me get through the day !

I feel like running away from my own body,as it’s a constant reminder.

I will have a look through the threads to see if i can find it

Hi Chocoa,

I have been on Tamoxifen for 5 months and am having the same experience as you, it is driving me mad. I found 2 threads Feminine Dryness started 16.11.10 and Tamoxifen and Itching started 31.1.11.

I was hoping that since I was fairly new to the drug that the problem might settle. I have mentioned it to my BCN who more or less said that Tamoxifen wouldn’t be the cause, I have tried canesten - thinking I may have a thrush infection (3 times) and I have tried Replens. I know I should make an appointment to see my GP but I’m a bit fed up with hospital and doctor appointments so have been putting it off.

Hope the threads are helpful to you.

Luv
Tina

Hi Chocoaj, Tina, Amanda - you’re not alone. Thanks for reposting that thread, Rhian. Tamoxifen and sex do not really go together in my book either. Or BC and sex, I have just totally lost my libido. Am going on hols, and have just ordered myself (and OH - he’s happily oblivious at the mo)some pjur body glide (which I found mentioned on other thread) and pledge to give it a try and report back! I miss the intimacy so badly. Before you know it you’re settling into a habit of not doing it anymore. Horrible!

Hi Girls,
Partly bumping but just to say I understand the lack of confidence and how that has a knock on effect with intimacy. I had a mastectomy and in 09 and recon early 10. I hated my one (rather large) boob moving about during sex but have just ahad a reduction and I am hoping once the wounds have healed to try again. It does become a habbit to say no all the time.
Hope you get some answers.

I have bumped the other thread. Not started Tamoxifen, but due to.

Nikki good luck with gliding;) it work well at the weekend for me ha ha xx

Rhian, you’ve made me laugh out loud! Thanx! N x

Hi folks

This thread has been particularly interesting for me. I have been on Letrozole for about 4 weeks now and have ‘abstained’ from sex since last year just after my diagnosis of bc. Not sure if abstained is entirely accurate! But, you know what I mean. I have since completed the works; surgery, chemo, radiotherapy and am now on Herceptin along with the Letrozole. Felt like having a nice loving night last night!! What a disaster! I can relate to all the comments previously. I will now go forth and seek out the other thread mentioned to get some tips (hopefully) as I do feel ready to try and reclaim my life, my body and share that intimacy again. However, last night certainly set me back somewhat. Just when I thought I had come near to accepting my new ‘body self’.

Will keep checking this thread out for any advice folks can give me.

Cheers, J.

Bump for NAZ
See Rhian’s post on 04 May 2011 with a link to another thread with quite a few experiences.

Hi not at tamoxifen stage but can I suggest a lubricant you can buy online. Dont laugh but the website is
yesyesyes.org. It is great and comes oil or water based. It is completely organic and natural products and has worked a treat for dryness/itchiness and lubrication. There are some great testimonials on the site andn think you can order a trial sample for free
