hi i have been on tamoxifen for a month now… i havent had ant side effects is this normal or are they to come… when did everyones side effects kick in. i want to be prepared. one thing i must say is i cant loose weight. anyway have a good day all. dull here in bedfordshire.

Hi Jal,

My side effects started after a couple of days, mainly Hot Sweats, no periods etc. I have a friend who has no side effects at all also.
Dont worry about it you are lucky.
I just get the odd one now after six months but I take 1300mg Evening Primrose everyday so may be that.

Best wishes

Lovely and sunny in Durham but thunder storms forcast later. Boo!

Hi, I’ve been on tamoxifen for 18 months and have had no side effects. A lot of people get them but, equally, a lot of people don’t. I met a lady on a healthy living day who has been taking it longer than me, and still has had no side effects.

Hi Vivian,

I,m nearer than you think, Chester-le-St and have a lovely view of the Angel from my bedroom window.
I take it you live in Low Fell. How far are you along this BC rocky road ? I was DX last May, IDC grade 2 WLE Chemo and Rads.

Yes I think you are only the second Geordie I,ve spoken to. The weather is pap isnt it, we,ve had a few good days mind you. I,m a bit of a sun freak , I,m going to a wedding next week and I might as well look nice and brown to take the attention off my Crap short uncontrollable hair. Your Hair will be shorter than mine how do you manage it? Mine is just growing up and outward and just has a life of its own.

hi andrea nad viv. this is what i love about this site. you put a q in and you end up with introducing peple or meeting people local. its gt. i hope you all get along with treatments ok. take care julie.x

Hi Viv,

Mine came in totally grey which was a shock as was 39 at the time. I coloured it with a herbal dye at soon as i could, when it was about 1 inch long. People do look at you until its about 1.5 inches but who cares. Its comfort that counts. Yes my eyebrows and eyelashes came back very quickly but my eyebrows grew outwards and i had to smooth them down with gel. They came back really thick as well. Abit like my hair, I,m like Ken Dodd it growing out and up. Also mine is quite curly but was poker straight before. It takes some getting used to.

Lots of love Andrea xx

Hi Andrea and Viv - I too am Geordie born and bred … but was hauled up to the north of Scotland when my family moved … they couldn’t leave me behind cos I was only 7. I’ve since moved down to central scotland and now live in Grangemouth.

Hi
I have been taking Tamoxifen for about 6 weeks now. am a bit down about my weight - put it on going through chemo and would really like to loose 10lb or more.

Went to buy another outfit today for a wedding in Sept, the 2-3 I have already got dont fit!!! how bad is that :frowning:
gave me some retail therapy at least!

This and still get tired easily, is the only affect I have…

Rads are beginning soon tho …

I am in the south east - berkshire - so miles from most of you

Hi mairead

You may find it useful to have a look at the BCC fact sheet on menopausal symptoms as there is some information about how to relieve some of the symptoms you are experiencing, it can be found by following the link below:-

breastcancercare.org.uk//docs/menopausal_symptoms_jun_2006_0.pdf

I hope you find this helps.

Kind regards
Lucy

Hi
I’m a Geordie too. Seaton Canoe…oops…Carew. I have had a lot of symptoms on Tamoxifen but it could be coincidence. I am overweight which doesn’t help joint pain.

Well done everyone on finishing chemo

The Menopausal fact sheet is really good. I don’t know why I wasn’t given it with theTamoxifen sheet

Best wishes

Recently transfered to Tamoxifen and side affects virtually nil compared with Arimidex so I’m happy. Have lost a bit of weight recently by cutting out wine.
