It’s not that I didn’t know you could get joint pain as a SE of Tamoxifen…I just thought it would be a couple of years down the line! I’ve only been taking it for 4 months and my knees are so painful. I have a brisk 10 minute walk to work which I have always enjoyed, even through chemo, but today I was close to tears because the pain in my knees was so intense!
Is this normal and what works for you? Really can’t be bothered with my gp after my last visit…

Can you take cod liver oil tablets?? ive been taken them which helps a little bit, i checked with my onc and they said it was ok. Cant even do my tapestry at the moment, my hands are terrible…

Hi Kate,
I have been on Tamox for 18 months and have terrible joint pain also. All I can advise is to keep as mobile as possible, even if you dont feel like it. Brisk walks, swimming etc as I find that as soon as I stop moving, the joint pain is worse and I seize up.
Good luck in finding something that works for you. Lynn x
Hi
I’ve been on tam since March and also have joint pains. Mine are mainly in my ankles but my knees can get sore as well. However, I have noticed the ankle pain is getting better, so there’s hope yet!

Hi, i was beginning to think it was all in my head, in the the last 6 weeks, i feel like i have aged 20 yrs. The pain in my knees, hips and now ankles is almost unbearable.
I am taking diclofenic, dihydracodeine, and gabapentin, and am just about managing, but mixed with the tamoxifem and venaflaxine for flushes, my stomach is really upset all the time, and my head is really fuzzy.
Really fed up at the minute.

Hi
I’ve been on Tamoxifen for 4 years and now suffer quite a bit of joint pain especially in my hands and hips. I swim twice a week which helps, but this damp weather seems to make it worse. I’m counting the days to when I stop taking it and get some unbroken sleep!

i am going to be starting in the next couple o days!!! LOL
Oh gawd…I havent been on the site for many months (bc diagnosis Oct 09 MX Nov 09 Chemo Jan-June). Tried Letrazole in July but couldnt tolerate the joint pain.Switched to Arimidex 3 weeks ago & things got worse. Now been prescribed Tamoxifen but not started it yet. I’m horrified to learn I might get the joint problems with this too!!
