Hello, I am new to this website, I had a left side mastectomy in November 2017, I was fortunate enough to not have to have any further treatment. I am now on Tamoxifen for 5 years, when I started this in December my periods were very light but regular every 4 weeks, but last month it was extremely light and this month I’ve had nothing, is this normal? Also I didn’t have reconstruction at the time, why are people’s thought on having it? I feel I want the end result as I’m only 38 but I’m so scared to go through it.
Hi…I waited 6 months before considering a reconstruction. I’m sure if I had been offered one at the time of my mastectomy I would have snapped it up as I didn’t want to leave hospital without a boob! I didn’t have that choice so had to wait. I was glad I did, if you were like me I was in a trance for the first few weeks after being told. So pleased I didnt have a recon decision to make! I think you need time to come to terms with being diagnosed and your op first and then look at all the options before you decide on your recon. I had a LD flap with an implant…Happy to share the detail if that’s what you are thinking of having. The answer to your other question, my period stopped almost straight away when I started tamoxifen. I think this is a normal side effect for most ladies. It’s such a lot to take in isn’t it? This site is great for advice and there is always someone who feels the same. It’s been my lifeline during my journey. Hope this helps. Big hugs…xx
Thank you Poppy3, it really is a lot to take in, and can be such a strange time, I’m so glad I’ve found this site as never having gone through anything like this before it’s hard to know what’s normal and what’s not! X
