Hello Lincs lady,
I was told to take it at more or less the same time each day. I take mine at breakfast - which can vary a bit! Between 6 and 9pm is only a 3 hour window out of 24 hours… I think the problem is if you keep switching between morning and evening.

Hi…I don’t think it matters if it’s not exactly the same time each day, just am or pm. I’ve only just started taking it and struggle to remember to take it too! Do you know if it makes any difference to the hot flushes during the night if you take it in the morning rather than evening. I am fed up waking up in a sweat 3 and 4 times a night and only been taking it for three weeks!
i dont know if yu took it in the morning whether you would get flushes in the day more??
thankyou for the replys
Hi All
I have experimented by taking tamox in the morning for a month when I wake, haha i used wake loosely , as if I 'd been asleep, and then swopped for a month taking it at night when I went to bed, and I can honestly say it made absolutely no difference to the hot flushes, they remained the same , all day and all night !!!, 4 years 9 months to go!

Hi All,
Can I join this thread…
I started taking the Tamoxifen in May 09. Started taking it at lunch time, then that became slightly later when I started Rads. Ended up being nearer to 4.00 p.m. I found that taking it at this time at about 2 a.m. in the morning always waking up feeling warm.
Started taking the tablet at night now, quite late and I find I sleep right through. Don’t seem to be having any menopausal symptoms really or just taking them into stride.Although my right leg isn’t too good, feels very achy at bedtime.
When I was reading posts in the Summer someone seemed to think that there were better brands to have. I am on the Wockhardt ones at present.
I don’t know whether it makes a difference but I have only one ovary.
Has anyone been advised on when a blood test would be given to determine whether we are going through the menopause.
Any replies would be helpful.
Thanking you,
Whirlwind
Hi
I have just started taking tamoxifen 10th Feb, I take mine in the morning with my painkillers (only 7 weeks post op mx & ld flap recon).
I have had flushes during the day & night so don’t think it makes any difference.
The worst side effect at the moment is joint pain in both my knees, I have difficulty getting out of bed but these usually ease in a few hours, not sure how I will manager once back in work if this continues.
My BC nurse did confirm this is a known side effect, I am hoping will ease as not looking forward to suffering another 4years & 11 months.
These are really the only effects I have had, whether more are to follow I hope not.
Has anyone else experienced this joint pain & if so any advice to help.
Best wishes to everyone.
Susan
HI,
I take mine last thing at night, just before I get into bed…along with my omeprazole, cod liver oil and evening primrose oil…and not forgetting the movicol!!! Been on Tamoxifen since August 09 and have suffered terrible with sweats, flushes and achey joints…Onc suggested cod liver oil for joints and evening primrose for flushes, although he did say that it took a really long while for the primrose oil to work… A couple of weeks ago it all started to calm down, needless to say I was celebrating…and dare I say it! even sleeping!!!
Spoke too soon… Last week it all came back with a vengeance…so back at square one! Have no idea what to do next?
Hugs

Hi Whirlwind,
I think you need to ask for a blood test to determine whether you have gone through the menopause as they may not do them automatically. I had to ask as they had put me on Arimidex to start with and I didn’t think I was post-menopausal as I had a hysterectomy, but kept both ovaries. I was actually definitely pre-menopausal and I’ve been on Tamoxifen for 3 months now.
I’m interested in why you want to know about your menopausal status though? Are you thinking of asking to switch to Arimidex once you are post-menopausal? I’m hating the SEs with Tamoxifen, but there are other threads with lots of people suffering with SEs on Arimidex and other AIs too. I’ve tried to find information on alternatives to Tamoxifen for pre-menopausal women, but I haven’t come up with anything. I’m now trying a cocktail of herbal and vitamin supplements to see if I can reduce the symptoms.

Hi Elsk,
Thanks for replying.
I was only enquiring really - wondering whether we are put on Tamoxifen for five years or do we change when we go through the menopause. As the menopause determines which tablet you are put on in the first place.
I take Methotrexate for Rheumatoid Arthritis so that may be helping with joint pain although as I said earlier my right leg does play up a bit when going to sleep at night.
I was just wondering with only one ovary will I get normal flushes etc. I started the Tamox. in May 09 and started to get hot flushes but over the last couple of months haven’t really been bothered by anything.
In 2008 I had a blood test to determine the menopause. I couldn’t tell what my body was doing really as I had been on the mini pill (2 each day) and wasn’t having periods. But I was told that I wasn’t going through it at that time. I have other blood tests every two weeks so they just added that one on too.
Yes, I’ve heard about the SE’s on the other tablets by reading posts on here. I’m 51 now. I’ve got friends younger and at the same age who are naturally going through the process of the menopause.
Thanks again,
Whirlwind
