Hi
I am 3 years 6 months on from being diagnosed with an Invasive Lobular breast cancer. Thankfully I found this and after 3 mammograms they still couldn’t find this. They said it didn’t show up as it was a thickening and not a definite lump. A biopsy confirmed the cancer. I chose to have a double mastectomy as this type of cancer can comeback in the other breast. It hadn’t spread to the other breast or to any nodes but my decision remained the same. I had tissue expanders which was awful and failed. I then had my boobs made from my tummy and nipples made also a massive operation but sailed through it. Amazing results both for my tummy and boobs. Been on tamoxifen now for 3 years with awful side effects hot flushes and weight gain due to see oncologist this month but wanted to know peoples feelings about stopping tamoxifen ?? Does the hot flushes go away and will the weight start to come off. I am keeping my self busy and working hard.
Hi
I am a similar time frame to you–I have been on tamoxifen for 3 years now and my onc said I’ll need to be on it for 10 years. I would so love to stop it, primarily due to weight gain. The last 6 months the weight gain has been so obvious ( on hips and belly) but not anywhere else and this is depressing me now because I’m only a size 10 usually. The first couple of years on tamox did not affect me - its only these last months. I am 42 .
Regarding the hot flushes, mine have returned with avengeance since 19th July when I opened a new prescription from the pharmacy–It was only after a couple of weeks that I noticed the brand had changed and then I put two and two together and realised this was causing the flushes. The previous brand I’d used for quite a while and I had no hot flushes and had restarted periods, so it makes me wonder whether some brands arent as effective as others?
Anyway, I know I personally would never come off tamox unless an alternative was offered.
